I moved the hard drive from my old PC into my new build.

I already have a SSD boot drive, and a 1tb spinpoint F3 for storage.

The old drive is 150gb, and I would ideally like to use it as extra storage/backup.

For example last week I had a bit of a scare that my Spinpoint was failing and windows told me to back up my files - only I couldnt because I didn't have the anything to move stuff onto.

The old hard drive is about 80% full, probably mostly of unimportant stuff. Therefore I was thinking I should pull anything important off it and then format it.

Is formatting the best way to clean up a hard drive? if so how do i go about it, I have never done it before?

Formatting it will be fine for what you want. Just plug the drive in to your pc making sure in the bios its a secondary drive and then you can format it in 'computer management' (assuming your using windows).

Make it your download drive. Download all things to it and then move them to your preferred. Saves on defragging :D
