Best times to post on Instagram?

I've started posting my street photography to IG in the last few days but it's difficult getting visibility. Apart from a couple of likes here and there, there's no comments yet. I'm being pretty selective in choosing the best hashtags for each picture I post and not copying and pasting the same ones each time. And I've started to give likes and comments to other photographers work, of which one has reciprocated. But it's all very slow. I don't believe it's the photography that isn't interesting, it seems to be more about the sheer quantity of photos posted every day and mine getting buried.

I googled 'best times to post on instagram uk' and specific times of day were suggested for each day of the week. I don't know if those times are for a global audience or just UK viewers but I would want to attract attention from everywhere, not just the UK.

Has anyone here built up an IG account and did it take several months to get a small following? Do you have a specific time of day you would suggest works well? Any other tips?

My instagram page isn't up to much but having worked with the guy who runs the local football club one he seems to think that posting 6 - 8pm consistantly gets a better amount of likes since folk are sitting doomscrolling during or after they've had their tea in the evening (uk only of course). Another local photographer to me seemed to get a boost to his profile when he started using reels not just photographs and as a result gets a good number of hits for general local Scottish locations. I think the key is to hoor yourself out across all the social media platforms to drive more folk to your profile. Facebook for pensioners, instagram for the 25 - 50s range and tiktok for your teens to 25yr olds or do as @Diddums suggests but there's fierce competition out there! :p

Social media used to be much better at connecting you with randos. It's not really true any more. I think they would rather you pay them to get eyeballs if you don't already have an active following.

Why do you want visibility, what do you aim to get out of it?
Why not? When you spend hours working at getting good photos it's nice to share your work for others to enjoy, to get some comments, and if you're fortunate, even respect from other photographers you admire. I think most users would probably have much the same reasons. Feeds our ego a little too. :D

As long as you enjoy spending the hours working at getting good photos, then that is the most important thing. If others enjoy them, comment on them, or you garner respect from other respected photographers would be secondary.

Instagram is just becoming an advertising platform for online prostitution (OnlyFans, Fansly etc).

Their "AI" moderation system is absolutely moronic too.

I've had comments removed for "spam" when I've simply given an opinion or statement of fact.

There was a reel I commented on about FB accounts being hacked. My comment was "Do many aren't using 2 factor authentication. That and they respond to those silly "what's your potato type, combine the street you grew up on and your first pet's name" posts"

Removed for "Spam - We take down comments that are deemed posts for likes"

Engagement on IG has plummeted.

My photograph account that was at about 10k followers could get 500 likes+ on some posts. Now it's barely into 3 figures. Not that I'm bothered about the numbers, but it just highlights the lack of engagement anymore.
