Best touchscreen phone for camera and web browsing?

So you want someone on a forum to make your mind up for you

Just take the top 3.

iphone
N97
HTC Hero

And compare the specs for what you need it for.

Simples.

There's a few that I would consider nice, I've not included the iPhone, as you specifically wanted a phone with a good camera, while the 3GS has a decent camera, it's far from top of the range.

N97
HTC Hero

I went with the Omnia HD, has a larger screen than the others here, and an 8Mp camera with HD recording. There used to be a problem with poor quality audio but that's been fixed with a firmware update that has also increased speed, and has made the built in web browser noticibly better.

The choice comes down to which one you prefer though to be honest, I'd recommend you go to a shop and have a play with the ones you are considering, then see which you find the most usable.

iphone is not the best for camera.

I'd say htc touch hd(get the skyfire browser and you'll be able to go on flash and silverlight sites), but then I'm biased :)

camera wise there's a few 8mp camera phones tho don't know how they perform web browsing wise compared to the likes of the iphone, g1 etc.

also couple of 12mp ones due out in the near future.

N97/Omina HD = best touchscreen cameras
iphone/android = best browsers

Omina HD - too bulky
N97 - a bit laggy (apparently) with a satisfactory browser.
iphone - doesnt have multitasking/has a poor camera, HTC Hero - has a poor camera.
i7500 - may have a poor camera, no sample shots available.

Its a really touch decision.

Is the skyfire browser full res on the HD yet? As it is the HD (and the touch Pro 2) are probably the two best phones out there for internet browsing at the moment, they wipe the floor with the iPhone in that respect, however they don't have the best cameras. In daylight the HD camera is pretty good, nice colour, contrast and sharpness, with little noise, but as soon as it gets dark it's quite difficult ot take a photo without blurring (and it has no light).

Problem is the iPhone doesn't have the resolution to take on the 800x480 phones, and resolution is king for web browsing (especially when opera is comparable to Safari in terms of usability). Android has the same problem. In that respect it does seem WM devices are top dogs at the moment for web browsing.

Skyfire is in development for S60v5 (i.e. i8019HD/N97). They already have a S60v3 client so it shouldn't be too far off.

Xperia is still the king of web browsing for now - I've not seen another phone that has as good combination of resoultion and touch screen along with opera mobile... however the camera on it its worse than rubbish :(

Unfortunatly the X2 looks rubbish as well... if they'd just retweaked the X1 with a better camera and more refined phone options/reception it would have rocked.

This is the theory at least - my 3Gs is fantasic, I use it out and about for business and have no complaints at all. It's superb.

If you need a decent camera though that probably pulls it down enough to warrant looking at other devices. Go try 'em out :)

The HD betters it IMO, only because of the bigger screen, not much in it though.:)

The 3G is good, but browsing is better on the HD, solely due to the resolution, as the two browsers are pretty much the same interface and speed wise.:)
