Should be buying a TV for the front room this week.

The current one is about 43" and is very early flat screen so no HDMI etc... minimum i would probably have is a 40"
Will be used with an xbox one and probably netflix so Smart would be a plus but not essential (depends on price difference)
3d is not essential, although I have a few 3d blu ray's i would like to use if possible, but only really looking for 3d if its a few quid more really.

im currently looking at the Samsung 40h6200 40" as its priced at £379 in an Argos store near me (last one in stock and 20 miles away) and seemed like a good spec and size and came with the bonus of 3D should i want to use it.

Does anyone have any suggestions? only really looked to spend around £350, cheaper the better but without affecting picture quality (i remember Samsungs being the best for picutre?)

An extra 8 inches!
TBH I never use Smart features on my Tv. If it appeals, invest in a Fire TV stick for £25,
it can do so much more.

Hell if you stretch to £400 there are some nice 50" about.

Theres a 50" LG LED non smart again at argos for £329
Its just deciding if 3d and SMART is worth the extra 50 quid and loosing 8 inches (its not all about size as they say)

The main reason I recommended that Samsung, was that it was the budget champ in 46-50 inch over the last 12 months and has many positive reviews.
Also RS offer 5 year warranty. Exeter is the closest branch to you.

argos LMAO

buy from richer sounds or john lewis - they give you 5 year warranty free with any tv.

they also have the best customer service known (john lewis specifically here).

if your argos £300 tv breaks in 13 months time that will be £300 down the drain. do yourself a favour and buy from john lewis they price match any brick and mortar stores so they aren't expensive as others may think

OP did you pick up the tv and set it up yet?
How is the picture quality?
I am after a new tv, similar budget to yours but the max size i can go for is 40"

Yes i did, i picked up last week.
The picture quality is really good! colors are very vibrant and the shades of black seem pretty good. Although the TV seems to like darknening its brightness even though ive turned the auto brightness feature off.

The do a 40" version of that one i have.

3D is a gimmick, I'd ignore it.

As for Smart capabilities, I'd get an Android/Google/Fire stick or something.

Not that bothered myself about 'smart' i have an atv and also amazon fire stick
And 3d gives me an headache!
But if i could plug in a usb drive and play video files would be a huge plus
My 22" samsung in bedroom plays every file i have thrown at it

thats my plan too, pick a smart stick instead

I plugged in my external HDD and it played all my files including MKV's

The only thing is when playing a lot of files from usb drives into the TV a lot of non smart tv's cannot play the DTS audio. Unless you buy or have a seperate Sound 5.1 or soundbar. Then thats adding extra cost to the package if you don't. Fire stick exc are great but if your wanting full features with the option to play full MKV files then Smart is the way forward

Bumping this...

I'm also looking for a TV for a similar budget, maybe a little more if it's worth it.

The Samsung seems brillianr for the money. How do the current deals on RS compare to it now. There's a couple Panasonic offerings for not much more.

I'm not bothered for smart TV features etc it'll mainly be driven from my PC. I just need to work out if 48-50" really is too big for my needs. The best panel I can get for around that budget is m main concern whilst still being nice and thin without massive bezels.

I guess you don't know much about SoGA or your consumer rights. If a TV breaks after 13 months you can just go to a small claims court and win, and get the TV replaced or repaired. You have up to 5 years after your purchase to make a claim. That is why JL and RS offer that warranty because they would lose either way.

The difference is richer sounds will give you the original amount you paid for your TV back whereas others will revalue the TV due to age and you get a much smaller amount back.
