Hey guys,

Im getting really, really bored of all my games ive got,

Im sick of RPG's and First Person Shooters.

So, i want to play some tycoon games, i think they will keep me busy for a bit.

So, can you come up with some good tycoon games worth getting?

Cheers.

Transport Tycoon. The first and the best.

Transport Tycoon Deluxe can be downloaded for free from the net. Locomotion is the spiritual successor which is built on the Rollercoaster Tycoon engine. I'd recommend the latest Rollercoaster Tycoon game too, I loved the first two.

found Beach Life good fun. Also Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 is very good after it's patched up to latest version (tons of bugs in original release). Simcity 4 quite immersive but tough to start with.

It didn't get amazing reviews which is a shame - it looked good

PC Zone gave it 70%

PLUS:
- Massive gaming world with tens of thousands of citizens
- Quality character-driven objectives
- Fun for the tycoon novice
- Amusing parades and carnivals to enjoy

MINUS:
- Much too easy for veteran gamers
- Very repetitive

Bottom line: Juicy on the outside, mushy on the inside

found the movies to be very good played in "Tycoon" mode where basically you get the computer to do all the scriptwriting/production work and you just concentrate on making sure your actors etc are ok. Found the bits where you get to create a movie too complicated and simple at the same time. If this sounds weird I mean that I found it very complicated to make a film that made any sense at all as the choice of scenes etc is far too limited and they dont seem to go together very well. Obviously you cant expect to produce Citizen Kane from scratch but it just seems mega-complicated to produce something that still looks carp.

My girlfriend loved the movies, played through it 3 times before getting bored of it, but i never really got on with it. As someone said above, the movie making bit of it is incredibly unfriendly, and once the novelty has worn off, making crappy movies isnt that fun. The rest of the game just seems really boring and seems to play itself... You always have a shortage of people, which i thought that being set in hollywood, this would be the last resource you would run out of!!

Have you tried Theme Hospital? Its abit old but i've been playing it recently and its still really good. You could also try and get hold of Startopia, which is set on a space station, and is really good.

All these 'Tycoon' and 'Theme' style games are pretty much identical when you play them anyway, so just pick the setting\task you like the sound of most!

I can understand why Tycoon City: New York got average reviews

However I own this game and absolutely love it. If you're a casual gamer like me and would rather avoid involving financial management, politics etc then I'd recommend it

You just build, admire, upgrade, take on small challenges and admire once again it's simple but it's enjoyable.

Got it for a tenner as well :D
