Best UK Webhost?

paid for a new server from vidahost yesterday, seemed an automated sequence as was up and running sub 5 mins

I cannot vouch for anything else being a new customer but went with them from the good referrals on here:)

Same as myself - excellent support. I decided to move one of my accounts over until my current hosting expires in a years time. The guy was so helpful in moving all my stuff over and was up and running within 10 mins, mails and everything still preserved. Excellent service so far.

Nothing but praise for them, I use them for my web design business. Been with them for about 3 years now.

Their Customer Support is simply awesome.

I've seen me post on their forums, raise a support ticket via my WHMCS and have a reply within minutes which sorts the issue out.

They also have a "Live Chat" facility as well as a 24/7 telephone support system.

Brilliant stuff and a thriving and friendly forum as well, which is constantly monitored by EUK staff for any problems that should arise.

Can't praise them highly enough. :D

Just a question on this issue... are there many advantages of having locally hosted sites as opposed to servers in the US? Apart from speed obviously. I read somewhere that locally hosted sites perform better in search rankings too. Any input on this? Am currently considering a move to vidahost for hosting as I have all my domains with them and support is just outstanding.

Yes the server location matters. If your target audience are from UK then you should definitely host your website on UK based servers.

When you host your website on a UK based server you get 2 major advantages :-

1. Search Engines categorize your website as a UK website and you get better ranking in UK.
2. Your customers from UK get better browsing speed and your websites will load much quicker in comparison with US server.

Before considering any UK web hosting provider make sure you check the server location because there are many UK based web host with servers in Germany. ;)

Vidahost.

I hardly do anything with my webspace or use any of the additional services provided, but the customer service and support is excellent. It's also good VFM.

Does having a .co.uk domain name not sort out number 1?

I think with the increased prominence of AJAX on websites it's even more important these days to consider hosting your site as close to your intended market as possible.

With regards to SEO, you can achieve being listed on the UK page by either having a .uk domain name, or by having an IP that originates in the UK (being hosted on a UK server, in other words). Alternatively, you can set your site's intended country as part of Google's webmaster tools but I have no idea whether it's the same/more effective/less effective than the other optons.

TSOhost.

I've emailed them at 8pm, and they've got back to be within 20 minutes. Past their stated times! And have always been very helpful, even when I was enquiring about their services.

Now all of the sites I do are on there.

Vidahost!

THey are amazing! I have had a whole host of issues/queries/outrageous requests and they have accommodated all of them, quickly and efficiently.

Can not recommend them enough

Cheers
Aaron

They also now offer a "clustered grid" hosting solution (look at the bottom of the homepage for the link to it) which looks quite interesting - basically it's shared hosting but on a massive set of blades. They're going to create a 2nd cluster in another data centre so that you can have almost instant fallover in the case of a catastrophic event (like the explosion/fire that ThePlanet had a couple of years ago).

Nice!

Have a look at http://www.register1.net as well :)

Top service, own their own network too unlike the others :)

Register1 and Serverstream are absolutely superb. I've used them for many years now and they've been top class. Can't recommend them highly enough.

You might pay a little bit more with them, but their network, support, customer service is first class and is more than worth the money.

I use vidahost and have nothing but good things to say about them.

Same, I am constantly astounded by the level of support they offer, have always had issues resolved within 90 minutes, at most times of the day as well.

They will continue to get my money until :

a) I die
b) The world ends.

Hi there,

I'm currently with 1&1 and although they do reply very fast to email I'm not all that convinced with the cost vs features I am getting. I've been with them for a year now.

Can anyone recommend somewhere that offers the following:

~ 24/7 Support
~ PHP/SQL with DB
~ 1/2GB Webspace
~ Reliable and Good Reputation

Thanks

Not sure if they give 24/7 support, but I've been with Registron (same company as TSOHost - UK Webhosting Ltd.) for a while now, not had a problem :)
