best upgrade path?

I have a Thermaltake Lanbox, I realise this is a seriously small case...but I was going to build up a new gaming computer inside it.

I wanted to know, what kind of cpu do you recommend for a case of this size? It needs an MATX motherboard. I have a Hiper Type R 580 Watt PSU inside it and from what I can see (and I had the same issue with my last setup inside this case), that there is not so much clearance to have some of these high performance 3rd party CPU cooler/heatsink fan.

Also, regarding GPU, is a 4870x2 / 5850 / GTX 280 going to work well under this kind of temperature?

if you wannt use anything new, get a Corsair 620HX PSU, your hiper is *crap* if i want to say it, heck i had the blue hiper Type-R 580W myself and it dint even want to run phenom 9850 125W, HD 3870 and a buch of harddrives

btw the HD 5850 will be the best of all those cards you listed AND the coolest under load(upto 288W) and idle (27W idle!)
4870 X2 is a Dual GPU card

surely 580watts is more than enough to run that.

The problem is the Amps on the 12v rail it's rated at ~30A and this is hiper we are talking anout.

Makes like Hiper, and general "Unknowns" tend to put spec on the labels that is the absolute *max* of the PSU. It will not be able to actually run at these levels for very long, as the components used are generally of bad quality.

If you get something like a Corsair power supply, or OCZ etc, then the ratings given are 24/7 ratings, not "peak" Still, you want to have at least 10% over the top of what you actually need to make sure you're not taxing it too much.

A 580W hiper will probably be good for about 350-400W 24/7 output, and probably at about 18-20A on the 12v rail.
