MOBO- Gigabyte p965 DS3

I have been thinking about upgrading my gpu to a GTX260 .

But with some help off OCUK ive decided not to and had a different idea .

iv started to think i may be better off with a new mobo and cpu is this a good choice?????

iv been lookin at

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 810 2.6GHz (Socket AM3)
Asus M4A78 AMD 770 (Socket AM3/AM2+)
£176.97

or

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.33GHz 4MB-cache (1333FSB)
Asus P5QL Pro Intel P43 (Socket 775)
£179.96

Is this for gaming? Because either a AMD Phenom II X3 or Intel E8000 will do.

EDIT: What's your budget & do you plan to sell the old stuff?

psu is an Antec EarthWatts 500 Watt but iv also got 3 HDDs and 5 fans runnin on it

PSU might struggle. What's the combined +12V Rail Amps (see here)?

IMO you need a more powerful GFX to handle that res + the faster E5200 to help it along. Otherwise, if your budget allowed I'd recommend the AMD route along with a 4870 ;)

Its max output is 408 watt i think.
Will it handle it?

Up to either the e5200/e5300 and 4870

or e7500 and 4870

having the e7500 means you have a 1066mhz fsb, meaning ram will run at the correct timings.

Are you going to be overclocking?
