Best Virtualization Software?

VideoRedo for example which is a video editor. I can't remember exactly what happened but I installed uninstalled it multiple times and the next time I installed it there was a glitch. That glitch wouldn't have happened if I did a clean install where the program was never installed before.

Ask for support. They're very good.

Don't know what those are. UNIdesk looks really expensive, I'm not a millionaire. You got some more info?

OK a non persistent virtual desktop allows you to have a single image desktop, like you're after. Every time you switch it off, any changes you made are lost. This gives you a clean working image every time.

Unidesk gives you application layering, so you add an app to a layer then apply it to your VDI. Therefore not writing anything into the registry.

Like I said, its overkill. Its an enterprise/corporate solution. I can't think of anything else which gives you what you're after.

Also, rather than restoring the image...why not just fix the issue which would save you a huge headache? :p

I've been perfectly clear.
I'd like to use a program that allows me to "install" programs without writing anything to the real registry. So if I want to delete the installation I can do so easily without effecting the real registry.

But what sort of issues do you get that warrant running virtualization with snapshots etc?

I create a backup image of my C drive. Then I install some unstable programs that are known to cause problems. I can't then create a backup image because then the unstable programs are in the image. Restoring the image and uninstalling the programs is no good because uninstalling still leaves traces behind.

Why are you needing to continuously uninstall and re-install it. We're having trouble trying to fathom out under what circumstance you would want or need to do this, irrespective of "faults" with doing it; hence why questions asked about trial versions or disk space. Understanding why you want to achieve what you want is important as the solution you think you need may not actually be the one you do need

New versions of a program come out so I need to uninstall the old one. However I've found that you get bugs in the new version due to the old installation.

You still haven't been specific about the program. It must be a specific one, because that certainly isn't the case with the majority of applications. The ideal solution for what you're asking for comes in at an enterprise level. As said before, you would be far better off figuring out these miscellaneous 'bugs' than worrying about trying to use just a virtual registry etc.

You say you're being specific, but right now what you're doing is as effective as taking your car to a garage and simply telling them "its broken" :p

I can't think of any way to achieve what you want, in the way you want. Even then, upgrades shouldn't cause these sort of issues. Have you spoken to their support? If the software really is "that bug ridden over something as simple as an upgrade" (Not that I see there being that many upgrades that often?) then may you need to look at a different product. Even then I feel there's something missing here, I've had issues with reinstalling things before but clearing out profile settings or folders that weren't removed sorts this. I've yet to find a piece of software that utterly breaks my system or the software itself completely upon reinstall

How does Virtualbox work? Do I just open the program within Windows and I'm immediately in a 2nd installation of Windows or does the 2nd Windows need to boot from within Windows?

Windows needs to boot from within Windows with Virtualbox.
This still may not work, if the virtualised OS cannot get access to the required hardware

Thinking about it again, the best way is probably to have a dual-boot system, then just clone the one without the software installed onto the one with it, and re-install the dodgy software into the copy, that way you have a stable up to date version of the OS, and one with your unstable programs in that you can quickly re-install them into
