Best VPN Solution?

After looking around, I was thinking either nordvpn or purevpn, but heavily leaning towards purevpn for the split tunneling feature, but saw this

https://www.reddit.com/r/VPN/comments/52654i/security_flaw_in_purevpn_calling_all_purevpn_users & http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2518138, which seems to be the same thing.

Purevpn don't seem to think it's a problem and the other link pretty much says windows/windows firewall can/will reject incoming, much the same as the basic firewall in most home routers. I did have another link, but lost it. Seems to be quite a few purevpn users & I would have thought if it was a major issue, there would not that many recomendations.

So hoping for some thoughts on the above from people with more experiance in that area.

It's so hard to decide :(. For every provider, there seems to X people saying it's great, and the same amount saying it's awful :p.

Thanks.

Just had a read f that and it's quite concerning too.

Especially as PureVPN couldn't really give a response to it.

Looking at the link provided by Chaos (some great info there btw). It also seems PureVPN does a little bit of logging too.

I use two.

PureVPN. Primarily for online gambling overseas. I use their dedicated IP service as well. Never had any issues with it aside from with a few gambling sites who are cracking down on VPN usage. So I also use :

VyperVPN. Which so far has managed to get me around any location issue on the net including Netflix's draconian methods of VPN detection.

They suggest different servers for different uses, have a look into which server you're suing and try a different one. Also it depends on what the device running it is, for example OpenVPN isn't multi-threaded from memory, I forget it's limit speed wise, but it was lower than 200mbit, also don't forget the 'up to' proviso from VM may mean you don't get 200mbit.

I've tried all the different servers for the various pre-loaded scenarios and speed never improves. Would have thought the UK servers would have been fastest but no joy.

Running on my Win8.1 PC.

I speed tested without the VPN activated and I was getting 220Mb/s. With the VPN activated I was getting between 18-20Mb/s

VPN sites are blocked at work so I cant check but do they support any other protocol like that you can try as someone above says openvpn isnt the fastest.

I already looked into the logging before. Purevpn log connection time & bandwidth usage, nothing else. Looking around it seems whether that's a concern is based on the user & just how much privacy you want.

It was more the firewall hits that concerned me. A lot is above me :(, I was just hoping for more opinions on that from those in networking etc or with just more experiance.

Ye Various...TCP/UDP/PPLP and various others. They don't make much difference.

Are you the client or have it set up on a router? It apparently takes quite a bit of grunt and home routers are often not up to the job.

Does Vypr still log as much as they used to?

Its setup on my PC. The router is the SuperHub 3.0 from VM which i haven't modified.

Connected this evening to a uk server using the L2LP Protocol and getting full download speed so looks like the issue is resolved.

No idea what any of these protocols mean or do interms of speed/security

Getting some insane speeds through the vpn at the moment. Im on a 200mb BB package...

Unfortunately yes I believe, and I was aware of this before I hit subscribe. It does circumvent Netflix regional restrictions though and enables me to access some bookie websites that pure vpn wasn't able to.

Purevpn on the other hand....according to their website they don't log anything. I would like to believe that's the truth.

i just cancelled my purevpn subscription...just too slow no matter what server i connected too...they tried to fob me off with i was not entitled to my 7 day money back guarantee because i had gone over my usage allowance which is stated in the small print when you sign up....but i pointed out the reason for that was because i was testing different servers for download speeds as suggested by there tech team...after a few days arguing they have agreed to give me my money back....but i have not received it yet.

I an now looking at cyberghost...i have found a deal for a year for £13.50...any one using this one

same here....poor performance

RE: VPN Speeds.

You can't realistically expect hundreds of Mb/s from a VPN consistently..
Because end of the day, it's a dedicated server on a 1000Mbps port which is being shared with other VPN users.

Expect speeds to fluctuate in accordance with peak traffic times and don't complain unless you're paying topdollar :p

Been with AirVPN for the last couple of years good service very few slowdowns in that time, costs 5 Euro's a month. (I'd say I get 95% of my ISP connection speed most of the time)

ohhh choices choices.

I guess what i'm most reluctant to, is signing up to PureVPN's 2 year deal, as that's currently on offer of about £46 all in (£23 a year).

But if it's not as good as people make out, then i can't see getting my money back after the 7 days.

I've used pure's lifetime deal for over a year, it was cheap and it works for my needs.

I got a 3 day trial from nordvpn (you have to email them).

Quite impressed so far. Don't have as fast a connection as some here, but without the vpn i get 72/18.7. With the vpn I'm getting 68/18. No dns leaks or ipv6 either, no v6 might be beacause the hh5 doesn't support it yet, not sure, but no leaks at the moment.

Small price to pay for privacy.

Only one thing, I don't think it's anything to worry about, but I thought I'd just ask.

To use iplayer even when connected to a UK node, you have to enable the smart play feature before connecting.

When you do that, the sites detect a leak as the dns ip now differs. It's an ip belonging to google. Nordvpn do mention that here

https://support.nordvpn.com/hc/en-us/articles/208083995-Will-I-get-a-DNS-leak-with-NordVPN-

I assume it's still secure even when using smart-play then as it still doesn't go through your isp dns. So false flag I assume.
