Best VPS host?

just had an email from 123-Reg saying they are offering VPS from £9.99.

No idea what it was and only by chance I read it, but had no issues with anything else from them :)

Ovh/Kimsufi looks too good to be true. Though I really wanted a VPS as they're more reliable than a dedi. Their VPS pricing seems to be fairly uncompetitive. 4GB RAM costs £84.99/mo.

Linode seem to be ridiculously priced. And doesn't seem to support Windows.

I really want to avoid non-UK companies. I find pretty much every USA host are fly-by-night operations that just disappear after a year or two and take your money with them.

What do people think of Tagadab? Seem to be a Claranet group company, and I have a soft spot for Claranet from the 56k days and their UT server that gave me 90ms ping.

Okay that's OVH/Kimsufi out the window then: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=672553

I thought those dedi prices were a bit keen.

Got to have a sixth sense around you when buying server space these days.

Don't be put off by a bad review 4 years ago, companies can't please everyone.

I can safely tell you..

The support isn't too good, for example if you get a faulty piece of hardware. It could take them up to a day or two to even reply.

But the network and servers themselves are spot on.

Their control panel can do most tasks, including OS reinstalls, resource monitoring etc, making little need for any support at all.

I use Rackspace for my proper projects and they've been brilliant, the tech support alone is well worth the premium. Fasthosts and UK2 were both pretty crap, UK2 especially, support is nonexistent. Just signed up for 123-Reg's to sample it and it seems decent enough (for the price) but it has only been a day so who knows how good it'll end up being.

Yeah but I need better service that than. I need at least three nines SLA really.

This isn't for web hosting simple stuff. It is for hosting bespoke application servers.

I use www.iovps.com for my VPS - they bought the VPS service off RapidSwitch who I still use for dedis - just throwing the option out there RE iovps as tbh they seem a bit new to it - good intentions but a bit lacking experience. However if you need a bespoke server implementation I've had a lot of good experiences in the past with rapidswitch - give them a call they've been more than willing to work with us to create custom solutions and their downtime in the years I've used them has been extremely minimal.

I want to like Rackspace but I can never work out if they're homepage has been hacked or what. Their prices are just so lol.

£164/mo for a 4GB RAM virtual cloud server (they don't seem to do barebones VPS).

And they have the utter cheek to charge more for Windows OS even though it makes no difference to them what you install on it!

I use an american based comany, Xygenhosting for all my web needs. I have my site with them and it's never unintentionally gone down, I also had a VPS with them before around the $15 mark, and that was awesome too.

They have, imo, unparalleled customer support as well, so if you need anything they're there. Check them out @ http://www.xygenhosting.com/hosting/vps/
