My son informs me he want s to record MW2 gameplay to upload to Youtube etc.

Seems some people use the Dazzler DVD Recorder? Only thing is, I output to the flatscreen using the HDMI. I have a decased composite lead also plugged in to allow me to feed the sound to a stereo.... however I *think* the Xbox wont send video through this composite output while the HDMI is being used? I have to use HDMI by the way as I play on a monitor rather than a composite enabled TV.

Whats the best method to allow him to record the gameplay, based on cost and ease of recording when I use the HDMI output?

Many thanks guys.

as far as I know the 360 outputs on all connectors at the same time (at least I believe that's what I read when looking at ways of using optical out with a HDMI cable without buying the adapter), not sure if it will output any video on the composite cable while your 360 is setup to output in HD? maybe if you had the vga or component cable instead?

You can't output with composite and HDMI. If you use the dazzle you have to play and record in SD mode. No affordable recorders use HDMI. The dazzle doesnt even have a component option.

If you have Component sockets on your monitor, if you dont then I don't think it's possible at a reasonable price.

Your options are:

Hava: Which enables you to play with your HD (Upto 720p)monitor and output via component in SD.

Or

hauppauge hd pvr which lets you play and record in HD.

Hava costs from £10 to about £60 on the bay.

Hauppauge which is the best at the moment goes from £130-150.

Unless you're willing to spend some decent cash then you can't really. The dazzle rubbish in SD is the only cheap way I know about.

If you have a decent HD camcorder, maybe try just setting that up looking at the TV. Can easily look better than dazzle rubbish.

I use the Hava. Picked it up from the bay and allows me to play at 720p which is fine. I have seen them go as cheap as £10 on the bay.
