Best way to go about learning cad?

It was the for the w!n, which seems to be blocked :p

CATIA V5 is excellent, modelling is great as is the ability to go back and change sketches to tweak solid bodies. The fact it doesnt get hung up on layers is refreshing too.

Im currently getting my way through Unigraphics NX2 whilst working for another client, not as slick to use and more boxes to click through but the rendering does look rather splendid.

Back to OP. I see nothing wrong with self teaching using the tutorials etc in the software.

Dassault Systemes now own Solidworks aswell as CATIA, they had to buy them or face being sued as V5 took a few things from SW.

Havn't read the whole thread, but the op said that he cant afford pro software, you can download Blender for free, it is alright, personally I findit quite hard to use though, so I stick to pro/d. but give it a go.
