Would you say pc mark or 3d mark is better for measuring and comparing the performance of a pc? Or is one better for measuring cpu performance and the other for gfx performance?

It's mostly just for making sure the pc is performing in all areas as well as it should compared to a similar system.

Well downloaded and installed them both, then they wouldnt start because they needed dx9 from april 2005. That was a waste of bandwidth. Why would something called 3d mark 2006 need a version of direct x9 from 2 years ago?

If you select to allow/install the parts of DX9 it needs, then 3DMark06 will still work and keep DX10 also.(It did on mine atleast, so Id expect it to work)

The thing is though I'm using xp not vista so I already have the latest version of dx9 installed, how programs can be released with such flaws I will never know.

sisoft is a very good benchmarking tool (doesn't do graphics unless i'm mistaken)

hdtach for hard drive speeds
