Would like to know the best way, under 150 ish to record PC gameplay.

I want it to encode or what not smaller files, tell me what kind of perforamce quality I could be getting at such and such file size.... it'll be usually around 10 mins of video but cut and edited.

I have 2 spare 120gb hard drives, a 3tb external drive and a 128gb ssd main drive. best to output to my external drive?

Or would a 7950 be able to record games like bf3 in ultra (**** MSAA) in 1080p with 60ish FPS? and what software would be best, after burner or fraps?

I have really **** internet but am willing to upload overnight, I have 0.7mbit upload... so yes a 1gb is like scary as **** for me; or do you think I should just get better internet (probably like 2meg upload)

Please search the forums, there are hundreds of threads asking this exact question.

In short:

DxTory
Fraps
MSI Afterburner

Take your pick, research.

Saving to an external HDD will be WOEFULLY slow and, likely not suitable. RAID 0 the 2 x 120GB drivers and save to that.

Friend of mine uses an Avermedia Live Gamer HD capture card. As I understand it it's basically a HDMI pass through between the graphics card and the monitor and encodes the video as you go with very low impact on your system and fps. £150ish though. He says the file sizes are nice at least.

just get a fast second drive like a caviar black , then fraps or dxtory . sorted. then its just editing. on max settings if done right a minute is about 1and half gig.

only reason capture card is if you doing consoles.

No, capture card would take off any performance hit right? If I use the second drive there's still going to be a lot of fps drop?

And even then if what you say is true then I would ask best way to compress for YouTube - if I go all the trouble for a decent recording I won't have a fast enough upload (1mb) to upload it even at 50% compression!

Are there any ways I can get YouTube to save the video if I am interrupted or PC shuts down so it resumes with description intact and percentage upload resumed?

both the Avermedia Live Gamer HD and the Hauppauge HD PVR 2 can only capture at 1080p30fps I know the Hauppauge HD PVR 2 can take the 1080p 60fps input and convert it to 30fps well unsure about the Avermedia

Then obviously I would ask a friend to upload for me regardless of your rude comments

My qs still there, can u explain mrillis action and why it's better than traps?

they aren't most of it comes down to what software you prefer as there are numerous progs you can use to capture same footage. most popular now are fraps and dxtory. fraps because its so easy to use dxtory cause big youtubers did videos so loads use it because people like jackfrags use it.

as for being rude i was just having a little giggle but in all seriousness if you going to upload videos regular you need a decent upload speed.

I vote for OBS - you can set overlays and backgrounds etc on the output video file.
Webcam in the corner for example. but you can do anything really.

Yeah Ik lol my friend has 20mbps upload and he desperately wants someone to actually use it, he also has a server and everything I can use to back up my files. I've got 3tb + lots but I'll just wipe it/compress and archive and keep another copy of my files on his server.

Regardless upload takes forever.

Nah there has to be a worthwhile difference between the two right... if not then what software is the best to compress it with, I'm thinking of something in the adobe suite?

there is nothing in it people will say there is there isn't much at all.if you use each prog properly.

that's why so many use different programs. i prefer sony vegas and fraps many use adobe prem/ele and dxtory whatever you prefer.

Dxtory all day long. Splits the audio and the video as well, very small fps drop, loads of options and some gr8 codecs that can be used.

Shadowplay is pretty good as well so I've heard, but not used it so cant comment.

as said its pref to the person using the software you can do the same with fraps . use what you want i have and do use all. except OBS.
