Bit of a noob question but what is the best way to register a domain name for a new business I'm starting in the next few weeks?

Just use a domain registrar like GoDaddy or NameCheap.

Try hard to avoid registering a domain with a hosting package as they can make your life a living nightmare if/when you wish to change hosting.

I think that's great advice... if you have cheap dodgy hosting.
With a decent host, I highly doubt there is anything to fear.

If you're going to be registering a fair number, and know this isn't just 'short term', it's worth considering becoming an OpenSRS reseller.

There's a $95 upfront fee, but then you're buying in at a fairly low level and more than likely using the same resources that a lot of hosting companies use.

(You also have the chance to resell domain names should you want to dip into that)

What if you do happen to want hosting and aren't simply reserving a domain name for possible future use; with whom would you recommend registering then?

I've been with 123-reg for ******* years, not the cheapest for .coms but never ever had an issue. I also have a VPS with Webfusion and its been spot on.
