Ive been looking at a friends computer and ive noticed that the CPU is stuck to the fan. Whats the best way to remove it as i want to check the core for damage.

I used to just gently twist the CPU left to right until it basically fell off. Doesn't happen to me any more though, the "door" on Core 2 Duo motherboards is pretty great. :)

Thank god lol...by being impatient on my socket 939 once pulled cpu straight out of the mobo....lucky it did'nt leave any pins behind. :D

It's best when removing the HSF that you angle it out instead of pulling it straight. Also it mean you most likely using too much thermal paste. It's only meant to fill the gaps between the HSF and the CPU.

The PC in question is from a large pc supplier and its pretty well stuck on. Im gonna try a hair dryer on it later.

Fair enough, remember to put the hair dryer on a lower setting. They do tend to use a lot of the stuff don't they? IIRC my AMD came with a lot of it put on it, makes it like thermal glue.
