Hello all,

I'm going to start cycling in to work and I've got to lock my bike up in a style of shed where you slide your wheel in to a metal y shaped stand with this type of lock:

Now, my bike has quick release front wheel, rear wheel and seat post. What is the best way to secure the bike to this type of bike shed to prevent damage and/or theft of my bike?

Many thanks,
Nick

Take the front wheel off and chain it through the frame and rear wheel to the frame of the stand. As for the saddle - take it with you into work.

When you get there, sink it up to the hubs in wet concrete. By the time you finish work, it should be just about safe.

The locks that are two part, with a D-Lock and a cable are supposedly the best. I can't remember any makes at the moment, I'll await an answer on msn from a friend.

I usualy put the lock through the thing your tying it to, the frame, and the front wheel. That way people cant just release your front wheel and be off with the rest of your bike. If you have a quick release saddle then take that with you into work.

I'm away from my bike atm, but do I have to totally remove the quick release mechanism and slide it out to remove the wheel? I can see that being a ball ache every morning to do.

/racks brain.

i think any kind of lock is enough to detur a thief tbh.
i have quick release front heel, so if i dont take that with me, i always chain ot to the frams aswell as railings or w/e

Nooo, just flip the lever, loosen it a bit then pull off the wheel after un-doing the brake (if you have rim brakes).

put a note on it that says that you had sex with men whilst riding on it

or have it call the police if someone breaks the lock or an electrical wire surrounding it muhahahah

No hence it being quick release ;) Undo it by pulling the arm down and then wind it round 2 or 3 times and it should come off.

you can get saddles that have a space for locks to go through. But leaving your front end with no wheel and then resting it on the floor will cause the forks damage. Keep that in mind.

If you reverse it in, so back wheel in the wheel stand. Remove front, chain that along with the frame and the back wheel to the bike shed.

Or to chain your saddle up you could take the QR saddle off and slide the chain you are using to lock your bike through the saddle's mounting rails and connect it that way or if you don't adjust your seat height very often just change the QR clamp for a bolt one and do it up uber tight.

Just take a allen key to work with you in your bag or keep one at work.

Kryptonite kraits for the wheels to the frame and then a new york chain to chain the bike to the thing or at your house use a ground anchor. If its an expensive bike anyway. :)

I have a mate who works as a fabricator; he turns up to work, welds his bike to a steel post in the yard and grinds the weld off when it's time to leave.
