It is time to sell my old laptop but before I do, I want to securely wipe the hard drive. There does however seem to be a lot of difference of opinion as to how to wipe them. Parted Magic is refusing to load for some reason so I need to find something else.

How are you loading Parted Magic, from Ultimate Boot CD? You might need to disable Secure Boot in your BIOS for it to load.

Parted magic is my go to
Not sure if laptop bios will have secure erase
Also look for whatever manufacturers software
That made the drive
Though I used corsair toolbox in the past
And data was recoverable
So I would always double check it's not recoverable

As darael said
How are you running parted magic?
I use ventoy for it

I always fill the drive. Then erase it.
You want to check if the manufacturers software actually does erase it, because summer don't afaik..

I do the same :) . Just duplicate data that is not personal, then erase via OS or a secure erase method.
