I was going to use Samba, but was wondering if this is the best ways to use Ubuntu Server 9.04 as a file server across a windows network?

Thanks

If its just to share files then samba is probably the best way

I would like to use Ubuntu as a file server/NAS box, is there any other way to achieve this or is Samba the best for this, I would also like the ability to access files remotely, assuming this will have to be done differently (via VPN and FTP or similar?) or is there another NAS solution I could use ontop of ubuntu to give me more advanced features?

I dont mind using Samba, aslong as I can access the files remotely aswell as locally. Say for instance Im in work, and I want to access files being shared on my Ubuntu server.

Just use SFTP for this, just requires the SSH deamon running, then as said use Samba for internal sharing.
