Best way to simulate a room layout to the wife?? SIMS3??

I need a way of showing SWMBO some ideas on the layout of our house and I'm wondering if the SIMS game would give me that capability. I've never played it but I need a way of showing her a new lounge/kitchen/diner in 3D as her visualisation skills are virtually non existent.

I blame my mate for this as he oh so cleverly suggested that we should move our kitchen into where our lounge is and now herself is seriously considering it. Without of course also considering what the practicalities are!!

Any helpful advice would be welcome.

Try SketchUp, just follow the first 3 tutorial videos at: http://www.sketchup.com/training/videos/new_to_gsu.html

Once you know the basic controls you can probably build a room to the correct dimensions and then use the 3D warehouse to add suitable furniture. They even have quite a few of the IKEA pieces.

Yeah, and the Sims games are at cost as well. Think I paid £30 for Sims 3 in 2009. While I enjoy the game, I don't think it will be specialised enough for room design as you'll need to take electrics and plumbing into account.,

Sketchup works a treat. Had my whole house mapped out before it was even built. Bought the furniture and it all fit exactly as planned months later.
