I am happy with the gaming performance of my PC but would like to move from 1080p to 1440p soon. What would you recommend in terms of ensuring performance is similar?

Buy a 1440p monitor and add an additional GTX 970? I have never been SLI and see mixed reviews - some people recommending while others not so.

How would you guys take the step?

Please see my current setup below:

i5 2500k @ 4.4Ghz
Asus P8Z68-V
8GB Kingston 1600mhz
125 GB SSD
500 GB HDD
MSI GTX 970
850W EVGA SuperNOVA G2
Dell 1920x1200 60hz display

Well it depends on what games you intend playing and how much you care about dipping below 60fps. We have similar spec pc and there are games which do go below if you want everything maxed out, aa isn't needed so much at 1440p.

My advice is try it, if not happy pop a second card in.

Trying is is good advice - see if you're happy. There are games where my 780 sli can't maintain 60 fps and as games get more demanding you'll notice it more. Have a read of the benchmarks HERE this may help you. Gives a good review of SLI 970's.

I've had my Dell for a while now and is a great monitor but yes the Samsung on sale is great for the price!

I think that seems a good option. The Samsung looks a good deal but can't find any gaming reviews. Do you think its worth a gamble?

Using a Samsung S27B971D:27":2560x1440:60HRTz monitor, its not really meant for gaming more for designing, photoshop and Films.

My son and l went half each as he designs jewellery and l game, got this of OcUK at a cracking price.

Well worth the money, no complaints gaming here for colour or detail wise.

One is not enough for playing games on max, sure crappy looking ones like bf4 will be okay, but if you want to play alien/metro etc, you need two for sure.

Really?... 1 x 970 will hold 1440p without a problem.
Even then I'd be overclocking a 970 before buying another, the grunt the card has is outstanding.

You don't 'need' 2 for sure at all.
