Hi Everyone

I am procrastinating an upgrade and I am not sure where to really start. Here is my current spec

I7 920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz LGA 1366 (Cooled by a Zalman)
ASUS Rampage II Extreme Republic of Gamers
Nvidia XFX 260GTX
Corsair 850W Modular PSU
Corsair Dominator 1866 6GB Triple Channel (down to 4gb as Stick failed).
Creative XFI Soundcard
OCZ Vertex 2 32GB SSD
750GB Internal ( Cant remember spec)

A few things that are wrong with my build.
1. 920 heat issue reapplied paste many times still too hot.
2. Graphics card dated
3. Ram seems ok but really do want to step it up to 8/16gb (Looking at Samsung ram For editing and minecraft. Not sure if upgrade due to having a Triple channel board. Motherboards dont seem to go that way anymore.)
4.SSD SIZE..... I know I know :(

Looking at a new case (Corsair 600T) with noise cancelling but not sure of the value in it. And a all in one CPU cooler, but again im not sure of the value for the 920.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

What temps is the 920 reaching? There's no point in upgrading the CPU when you have that clocked to 4ghz. Maybe a Corsair H80 cooler?

The 600T is a brilliant case to have, go for it.

Maybe a GTX670 if you can afford it?

And if you want to upgrade the SSD, the Crucial M4 drives is currently the best SSDs to have.

Heat issues could be down to bad airflow in your case? Your new case and cooler should help with temps.

Airflow at the moment in my case is indeed bad, Temp wise I cant check at the moment but I remember me being worried enough to run my zalman full RPM from then on.

I am looking at also making it quiet so fan controller and some low RPM Apaches in a new 600T dampend case..... What do we think?

Indeed, 600T needs to happen, but I don't like the feeling of putting old parts in a new case :D. But its all that's available to me right now.

I was looking at the Gainward 580GTX Phantom 3gb Vram. Simply because of the Vram. Would a 670 be better than the 580 with 3gb vram

I guess it depends upon your OC. If you want quiet then a ready to fit watercooler may also be an alternative. You run the pump full speed and vary the fan on the rad depending upon cpu temp (rad fan is connected to CPU fan socket on the motherboard) The fan controller would control the case fans to increase airflow when the internal case temps get high.

if you say the air flow is pretty bad in your current case, drop the side off it and see if the temps sit at a normal level.

the noise dampening works on some levels, depends on the "noise" being produced.

no real need for fan controllers in a decent case with decent fans, if needs be you can set them to be controlled via the bios or software.

ssd wise have a look the crucial m4 128gb versions.

I'd upgrade to a new case first and see how the temps etc sit.
