im fed up of formatting and reinstalling. what is the best way to go about using nlite and win xp pro. what options do i not want, what boxes to tick here and there.

i want a stable clutter free operating system.

ive tried norton ghost and acronis tru image dont want to work on my system so they are a no go, norton ghost worked fine with my old setup using ide drives but i dont think it likes sata

I used nLite to make a Windows XP Professional cd with my SATA drivers and Windows SP2 built in. Made it a bootable as well. Seems to work very well. However, having said that, I find if you remove too much or change too much stuff with in the instalation disk, once installed, XP gives a lot of errors and doesn't work very well. Best bet is to leave the pre installed stuff alone, add what you want to add and make it a bootable.

I've never managed to get an nLite install to work for me. No idea why. I'm downloading VMWare now to see if the ISO works in there or not.

If you want to know what you can remove and can't, take a look at http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=66361. That'll tell you what external applications you might use and what they need.

The nLite section of the MSFN will be a good place to look at.;) You might even see bledd there.
