The *best* is always going to be dedicated units, which, given that a decent router will probably have a greater lifetime than a wireless access point these days.
*IF* money is genuinely no concern then I'd say a Juniper SRX110 is the best router you can get for FTTC (it's a one box solution and the the VDSL sync is as solid as I've ever seen). Wireless - I'd go with Aruba IAP-225, AC wireless and a really powerful access point with loads of config options which clusters without an additional controller if you need more than one AP to cover your house.
But, you've just spent £1k give or take if you go that way - it'll be flawless but is it worth it? Well I got those units for free from the vendors but I don't know I'd pay for them. Apple's airport setup is a nice extendable wireless system for a lot less money. Router wise, I don't know what I'd go for though, I like the SRX.
