Check your stats against the chart above, bearing in mind the increase in attenuation from moving to ADSL2+.
On any line 12mbit or greater I'd say it's worth going for fastpath (VERY rough rule) as you probably won't lose too much speed and the improvements in pings are nice.
The Be-provided router isn't great. Get a Sky-branded Netgear DG834GT from an auction site and reflash it with the DGTeam firmware for optimal (and cheap) results. Alternatively, get an AM200 and a Linksys WRT54GL with the Tomato firmware for a more powerful and more expensive solution.
