Hi all,

Having trouble getting the supplied speedtouch 585 to work with port forwarding for Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance.

Can anyone help? Ive followed the instructions on port forwarding.com but its still not working. I have assinged my pc a static ip, and set the application sharing to point to that ip, but no luck.

I have a netgear DG834G v3 which I can use.... would that be a better option?

I'll third the use of a netgear DG834GT (sky) - got one from here and reflashed it to the UberGT firmware and it's so much better, much nippier (is that a word) syncs faster. Should have done it sooner (did it last night!)

Or alternatively you can buy a Linksys WRT54GL, install Tomato, bridge the speedtouch into it and enjoy uber router features (including fixing your issue) for about £40 :)

QOS that works well, bandwidth graphs, bandwidth monitoring, increasing wireless signal strength etc - to name very few...

Not really anything there that would be worth the extra money for me I dont think.

Looks like a trip to ebay for a GT

You'll also get a better sync speed/connection stability with the GT.

I'd quite like to go the AM200 + WRT54GL route myself but not sure I can really justify the expense.

I was actually going to buy a AM200 to go with my WRT54GL but the BeBox seems to be working fine with no connection instability.

Saying that though, the BeBox isn't doing too much apart from sending/receiving traffic to/from the Internet and the Linksys...

Even as a modem the BeBox tends to perform slightly less well than a GT or AM200. At least in my experience of the 8 or 9 I've used/have tech supported for friends.

That said, if you're not having issues with it then there's unlikely to be much point moving over :)

Also depends on your line conditions. I found the BeBox less able to deal well with 'dodgy' lines than the GT or N.

Getting a GT is a good choice but there should be no reason why SupCom won't work with the BeBox. Have you tried just using UPnP to start with (enable SSDP and UPnP services in Windows and UPnP on the router)?

Check out the first link in the google results I linked to. There are ways around it but the BeBox has problems with quite a few games (e.g. TF2, AC, etc) so unless you want to be faffing about a lot, spending £15 on a sky-branded Netgear is a better solution.

Ah, I remember doing something like this for Steam stuff now, haven't played games in ages,

The DG834GT is definitely far better than the SpeedTouch stuff. My 780WL was dropping the connection or just freezing daily. Got a Sky branded GT and I got higher synchs and zero issues. It's also a fraction of the size and reboots in seconds rather than minutes (not that I need to do this). The interface could do with being a bit easier/quicker to use but hey.

I have been given a Draytek Vigor 2600 plus from work. Its not adsl2+ I dont believe, but could I use it in the same way as Rabtech suggested?
