Ok, so Intel are storming the CPU market at the moment with top performing products, but AMD's purchase of ATI really needs to come to the forefront of the battle.
Mobile devices and the home market can be a big win for AMD, since they can produce a APU that does everything a home user needs. Even nVidia is trying to get in this market with their ARM CPU partnership.
Leaving that aside however, what about most people's passion on these boards - desktops and gaming?
So what would AMD have to do to bring out to be a competing product in our eyes?
For me, if AMD can bring out an APU which has a integrated graphics core which:
Then that APU would be a great option, even if it lacked the brute force of Intel's CPU architecture, as long as it's powerful enough to deal with general computing, gaming and the console ports.
I'd hate the idea of buying APU's where the graphics section becomes redundant once you add a graphics card. The, you might as well just grab Intel as the superior CPU.
However, I bet this nice neat solution won't be possible.

For me, if AMD can bring out an APU which has a integrated graphics core which:
- A) Can become a dedicated physics unit when you add a graphics card AND/OR
- B) Can add to your stream processor count when gaming, folding or encoding
- C) Handles all 2D/desktop work efficiently, effectively shutting down your graphics card to save power.
