Premium versions are more 'balanced' sounding and come in 32,250,600ohm flavours.

The Pro is the 'bassy' version. That is the 80ohm version normally recommended to most. It also has a 250ohm version.

Some people say the 600ohm is the best DT770 overall. Others say there is no difference between all the Premium versions, but agree that the Premiums sound "better" than the Pro.

The dt770 do need an amp to shine.

You mentioned the DT770s need an amp to shine - do you think a sound card with a headphone amp would do them justice or if I'm going the DT770 pro route, do I need to start looking at amps as well?

The Asus Xonar DG would be better than onboard and is only £20, I have the 250ohm DT990 and it runs them fine, that said I haven't tried it with anything more expensive than the xonar but I'm happy with the sound it puts out

Depends on which version you get but most dt770 250ohm owners will tell you much better amped the 250/600 ohm versions definitely seem the ones to go for.

Beyer premiums are also comfier, with nicer earpads and a lower clamping force.

I was swaying towards the 80ohm so that I could perhaps use them with my mp3 player as well. Or would I need to go for a lower ohm value if I was wanting to do that?

My 990's are 250ohm and run ok from my phone, they would obviously sound better amped but I don't like having it up too loud anyway - they are in no means quiet

Good to know, the 80ohms should be fine from my mp3 player then.

sHoOsH mentioned the Xonar DG at £20 - does anyone have experience with more expensive sound cards that have built in headphone amps? I'm only wary as £20 sounds too good to be true, pardon the pun.

Would an expensive sound card without a headphone amp be a waste of money with the DT 770s? Thanks again
