also the widescreen hack is considered a cheat and can be detected by Punkbuster, just be careful if you play in a competition..
OT: also don't forget BF2 has rather large maps unlike some of those claustrophobic ones found inCOD4 and will obviously test your hardware much more.

i have always used the widescreen hack and never once been chucked because of it, maybe i'm lucky or it has since become listed as not a hack i don't know.
exactly as im trying to say to the guy who says bf2 is badly coded, it may be but we don't actually know that, what we do know though is cod4 is a completely different game making differnt calculations constantly, and im sure this plays a big part in why bf2 runs at a lower spec then cod4.

Yea i'm yet to be chucked because of it. It just pains me that I have to run a 3 year old game at a pretty low resolution when at 1280x1024 I was getting well over 100Fps with 8xAA!! The frame drop is remarkable, much more than other games I've played.

The smoke on bf2 can bring almost any graphics card to its knees at high res, its a flaw of dx9 I think
I'm using the same methods to run BF2 at 1900x1200 WS on a much less spec 7800GT and it runs a constant 60fps (vsync on) only on AAx2 and AFx8
With AAx4 AFx16 it was only running at around 40fps.. I choose to drop the AA & AF a little for the smoother gameplay.
This is on XP.. On Vista it runs like a three legged dog.

Just a thought, I use "+widescreen 1", instead of +"fullscreen 1" (without quotes). Try with and without the FOV patch too.
Hope this helps, running everything max @ 1440 x 900 (no FOV hack and above command line switch variation) with BFG OC 8800GTS 320MB, 2GB DDR2 and 1.8GHz E4300 C2D @ 3.0GHz, +70FPS)
Something seems to be wrong, BF2 runs MUCH smoother than COD4 for me. Always way above 60fps @ 1680x1050 6xAA. Whereas COD runs 1680x1050 2xAA at about 45fps I'd say.
I'm afraid it's something you're going to have to figure out.
PS the widescreen tool is fine with PB, provided you use 1.32 and nothing newer. At least that was the deal last time I checked, the newer versions may be fine now.

Well i dont know how you lot manage to get such high FPS....perhaps its just vista?
Same as me, i run a system a lot like yours but with a GTX and a Q6600 and vista, runs 30-60fps normally around 40, it never stutters so im not really fussed, you have to remember the maps in BF2 are a LOT bigger than COD and there are more vehicles and exlposions.
