BF2 freezing and sound loop.

Hi,

I have been troubled with random freezing since the latest Punkbuster
update Aug / Sept.

The sounds would still continue the screen was frozen even Ctrl / alt /del
would not work and the system would have to be reset.

I tried new drivers / going back to stock / switching slots / testing RAM etc.

It appears that latest patch does not like Rivatuner / ATI tools etc and
causes this freezing - so turning these programs off sorts the issue.

Don't know if it's only BF2 / 2142 effected but might help any game with
Punkbuster.

I meant to post this also to help anyone else out who might be having the problem but forgot about it... sure it will help some others though.
Also the new version of riva tuner is ok to use with it and does not cause crashing, it has a message about punkbuster when you install it.
 
I've been having the same problem, since aug/sept.
It freezes on a sound loop, & it will have what ever i was seeing at the time stuck on screen.
I've formatted, un/reinstalled bf2, changed drivers & deleted the contents of the PB folder then re-downloaded them via pbupdate.
Only thing i use is ATi Tool for fan control on my X1900XT.
Has me completely stumped, i was thinking it was PB but i even hosted a CO-OP game with a couple of buds (without pb) & it still froze.
No other game crashes.
Any more suggestions would be greatly welcome.

Did you try uninstall ati tool?, i installed it again last night just to be sure and it crashed right away.
Can you not use the latest rivatuner 2.05 instead of ati tool? i think that should sort your problems out.
