Hi all,

My BF2 is really lagging lately. It takes about 10 minutes to load a game and it lags like crazy for the first 10 minutes when I do eventualy get in. When I say lag, It's more like jumpy gameplay, not FPS - So I think it is RAM related.
Specs:
P4 3.2Ghz
ASUS P4P800SE
1GB Corsair RAM
256MB 6800GT

Do you think I should sell my 1GB corsair and go for 2GB GeIL? Is it worth it?

Cheers.

Ive got :

2 gig ram

Intel Celeron D 2.93Ghz

6800 gfx card

And i lag bad.

I wouldnt ask here though, some people are extremly unhelpful ;)

What on earth are you on about denic2k6 people are usually very helpful.

2gb ram helps with loading times and the higher texture sizes, also makes the game run smoother.

Sargatanas has ran the game at 512mb, 1gb, 1.5gb and 2gb I beleive and noticed less 'stuttering' at the start of the map.

With a x2 4400, 7800gt and 2gb ram everytime I load the map I get 1 stutter for the first millisecond then I am fine and up with everything.

The ram will make a difference I am sure, mainly helps with textures as usually the stuttering is to do with paging to the hard drive, BD2.exe runs to 1.4gb of ram on my system and above, so it will eat up 2gb!

Hmmm.

I think I will go for the 2GB and see if it makes a difference. If not, I will consider upgrading - I've had this rig for a while and I miss playing games on full wack.
Can someone tell me what the latest drivers are for the 6800GT? I haven't updated these for at least 8 months+.
After a round ends I am ALWAYS the last person to join, It's so frustrating. I join the game about 5+mins after everyone else and they are already killing each other and taking flags etc...! :(

Get the 2gig and set everything to medium, should work great.

I only got 1 gb ram, run on all medium and dont get lag at all....the loading times are considerably slower than my lads pc which has 2gb, but once im in, it runs fine (my pc is amd3000+ with a 6600gt 1gig - the boys is a 3200+ with a 7800gt & 2gig - he runs on high setting though)

sounds exactly like mine was but i've just gone from 1GB 3500 XMS to G'Skill 2GB 3200 ZX and the differance in BF2 is stunning, it's so much faster.

Up until now i haven't really bothered with BF2 because it was so poor running on my box, loading times were very long(always last in, mainly the verifying client bit) and when i run about i would always lag as someone come at me so when it clears im dead and screaming at my pc, and i would costantly get told 'there is a problem with your connection'.

Now i have 2 GB it runs as smooth as silk and im now 1 of the first into the server every time, very first loaded round can be a little slow but still 50x better than before.

I highly recomend getting 2gb for Bf2 if you dont want to have to wipe out gfx details.

system in Sig.

Bang on - same here - went from 1gb corsair to 2gb g skill and the differnce is massive in terms of getting into the round quicker etc. No lag at the start of the round or anything. Well worth spending money on 2gb.

I will go for 2GB for sure.

Ive just got the SF expansion. My original BF2 had patch 1.22 installed. What patch do I need to install for SF? 1.12?

Exactly the same patch as before (1.22), you just need to install it again.

No get 2gig and set everything to high like I do!!

I've got a 6800gt@stock, A643000, a crappy ASROCK mobo and 2gigs of RAM (Not in dual channel by the way) and I set everything to high (except lighting - medium) and I'm well happy with the frame rates and loading times.

I already have everything on high, including 4X AA and it is as smooth as silk about 10-15 mins into the game. It just takes forever to load the game, the game freezes at the beginning and when I quit the game the music keeps playing for about 5 mins, and my whole PC lags. I am pretty certain It's the RAM, so I will be ordering 2 GB on Tuesday and I will let you know what happeneds.

Check what you peak commit charge is in taskmanager after playing. If it's more than 1gig, then you need more memory.

Personally I think BF2 'needs' at least 1.5gig RAM for decent performance.

I'm not sure its all the RAM, I have a friend who plays BF2 on a 2.6ghz p4, 6800LE & 2GB RAM the game runs great, yet another friend with 3.2ghz p4, 7800GS (AGP) and 2GB RAM gets a lot of lag as you do.

I run BF2 fine, with no in game lag bar the first 10 seconds of a start of a map, yet I have 1GB ram, 6800LE and an A64 3000+

We all have Audigy 2 soundcards, and have found setting sound quality to medium helps quite abit.

I had my sound on medium anyway, I also have a Audigy 2 ZS. I have just joined a server and my CPU usage does not go over 30% but my commit charge stays around 1380/1400M.

Having 2GB RAM mostly affects textures.

When I was playing Battlefield 2 on an X800 GTO² I could max out every setting except textures, because medium textures used ~900MB system memory whereas maximum textures seemed to bump my memory usage up to ~1.25GB, at which point my HDD was thrashing about like a beached whale trying to keep up and my desktop would freeze up for half a minute when I quit the game.

I upgraded to 2GB RAM not long after, and it ran perfectly smooth with high textures on ever since. It's definitely about the textures and lighting in that game.
