When i attempt to play bf2 online and it asks to logon it takes upwards of 10-15 minutes to connect and when the server screen is loaded it says '' please check network connections''

Also if the page does load, when i try to connect to game servers it fails and also says check network connections.

Anyone any idea on what the problem is/what i need to do.

I am using a router, is there any setting i need to change to allow the game to work properly?

i was thinking firewall aswell but it does in some cases finally connect and i can update server details and get into them. It does take a while though and its not always sucessful.

Love your Sig mr men. Just a pitty we played like Mr Men last night until Brahim's wonder strike

Its maybe needing some ports opened on the router then mate, not got my BF2 manual here with me but I am sure it lists some ports in there that might be the problem.

And yeah I think the Mr Men would have done better last night than us

the only problem I had with bf2 taking ages to load into the game and generally being crappy is when I used that stupid "play bf2 online now" shortcut, I dont know what exactly it was trying to do (connecto a server etc) but using the normal BF2 link worked fine.

skyfall, tried like you said using the normal bf2 icon. Got servers to update but cant connect. Still says i need to check my network connections.

How do i set the ports in my firewall?

Im using XP sp2 and have an eTEC router

Should be able toenable access through Windows Firewall:
start> control panel> windows firewall.
If your using a different firewall go into settings and just allow bf2....

I was using the firewall on the router. But i cannot see anywhere in the router set up (192.168.1.1) that allows me to open ports.
