BF2 - What the hell!?

I recently reinstalled Windows and installed BF2 again. I want to make prone the left Alt button instead of Z because I find Z hard to reach when in combat.

I am trying to assign prone to the left Alt but it won't work, it tells me another action in 'Common Controls' has it assigned. I'm looking, and looking, but I can't see any action that has it.

What the hell is going on? Am I just being really stupid or is it not assigned to another action at all? I haven't touched any of the keys so it is all still at default.. does it go under some special name other than 'Alt' or 'Left Alt'?

The key setup screens were created by a work experience student who was drunk. I've always just used the config files and done it by hand.

No mate its the game config being stupid.
IF (big if) i remember correctly some buttons you just cannot re-assign.
I have my prone mapped to F. Super convenient as it's frequently used in game.
It's been a long time since i mapped my game but i am pretty sure you just can't map certain buttons.

Same happens assigning crouch to shift key and it spraffs some rubbish that its used by a helicopter key /Looks at helicopter keys shift key isnt binded to anything :rolleyes:

I have my prone mapped to one of the thumb buttons on my MX518 mouse, now that is super convenient believe me.

The other one is parachute, since it helps to have it close and spammable, otherwise cutlery will fly out instead of a parachute.

The ALT key is already assigned. Its not a button you can change. Ingame it toggles whether the icons above flags/med packs/ammo etc are on or off.

It can be re-assigned, i have left-alt as my parachute key.

One of my pet hates with games - Not allowing you to bind ANY key to ANYTHING. Its just retarded. I want to bind "A" to "backwards". Wont let me though. Doesnt give a reason, just wont bind. Go figure.

Check it isnt being used by another command think someone above already mentioned its normally binded to in game icons

It maybe binded to vehicle control check every one

If you're sure it should work then alter the control.con file directly, it'll be in your my documents directory.

I've mapped a ps2 pad to control everything that way

go into ** config files, somethin like mydocs/bf2/mods/bf2/

find the controls.con file

open it....

highlight everythin under the common controls heading, everything under, air,sea,land,chopper

and delete it all!!!!

when u next go into a game you will have lost all of your controls, but all keys will be mapable
