BF2 wont run (weird error).

Just tried installing BF2 on my pc and im having problems. I installed the game then tried running it single player, just after the BF2 autorun screen the screen goes black, flickers to desktop then to a black screen. I then get a error box saying

"mods/bf2/shaders/lightning not found!!! _DO_ cehck your working directory, _AND_ sync your shaders before calling upon your local rendering programmer/GP. (really!)".

Sounds really weird. Ive tried to install the 1.41 patch but it stops half way through and says "patch failed". Tried reinstalling BF2 and the patch again but same error and problem.

Running latest omega drivers for my x800.

any ideas? Thanks :)
 
how much HD space do you have as patching requires a a good few gig of space to work, also check your refresh rates, make sure your at 60hz to start with as BF games are notorious for refresh probs
x800 caused a lot of probs with bf2 in the early days, 1 mate couldnt play it due to that card


try using 'search' on bf2s.com for a comprehensive help guide
 
EA suggest re-downloading the FULL patch and re-applying it.

or

Uninstall SF, uninstall bf2, Delete the EA folder and MyDocuments/BF2.
Install bf2, install SF, then install any patches from EA.

you're missing some files in your install

the error on startup is related to missing files, and im guessing whats why the patching doesnt work either

backup your config files, delete the directories and re-install.
 
I have about 146GB free on my hard drive. I uninstalled BF2 manually with the guide on the EA site and re-installed BF2. The game works until you try and patch it. The patch fails and i then get that error when trying to play it.
 
I tried redownloading the patch from the same place and it still nackers up. But im playing BF2 retail and that works ok. But still one little niggle.

Ive put all my settings to HIGH in the graphics screen in BF2 and it all runs smooth. However when a few units get on the screen the game freezes for a second, screen goes black, then goes back to the game screen again but it does it constantly one it starts. Driver issues maybe?

Im using the latest omega drivers but ill try the official 7.2's later on and hopefully that should sort it out.
 
definitely sounds like a driver issue

never had any problems like that, and im using official Catalyst 7.1s (havent got round to 7.2s yet)

i take it your playing the game unpatched ?

if you want to get it patched, try downloading the patch from elsewhere

or try this guide. Lots of other people have had similar problems

i have had to reinstall my bf2 it loads up but when i join a server half way through loading it exis game ansd drops me to desktop

any ideas lads its doin my head in !
