Hi all,

BF2 has decided it won't run anymore. I get the splash screen, screen goes black when it starts to load then bang... crash to desktop.

Tried reinstalling, no avail. Any ideas?

Need more info.
When did it last run.
Have you patched. If so what patch did you use.
What have you changed since last run.
Try starting it at 800x600.
Does sound like a screen res CTD but not enouth info.
Also when you reinstalled did you allow it in your AV/Firewall.
Have you altered your ram at all.
Any new clocks hardware etc etc etc

Have you tried taking the tat off your mondeo :p

(sorry couldnt resist)

First thing that pops out at me is possible video driver problem - updated them recently?

Same thing happened to me Fox. For some reason the refresh rate changed itself to something my monitor couldn't handle. It got to exactly the point yours does and then went back to desktop. You have to unistall it including your settings and reinstall it again. If you keep your account details when you reinstall it puts everything back to how it was including your video settings.

Make sure you have your account details.

Ive browsed the net and it seems a lot of other people are having this problem... Bit annoying really, and my SF doesnt even load the disc to install anymore.

System specs:

AMD Athlon64 3500+
2048Mb Corsair XMS3200LL
ATi Radeon X850 XT PE

Last played it? Ages ago. Driver version? Dunno, Cat something.something, whatever was the latest version in December.

Try new graphics & sound drivers mate.

I've found a defrag can also help when BF2,for no apparent reason, stops working (which seems to be all the time! )

Also, going into "My Documents" & deleting the "Battlefield 2" folder can fix this issue. - be warned, sometimes, it won't!

NB, doing the above will have no effect on your rank etc. ;)

Theres also this one.

Maybe EA made a disc that Decays away if it isnt played to reap in more money...wouldnt surprise me!

EDIT> If you look at the right hand side saying related topics its got all EA games having this problem. what a rubbish company.

Before you do any of the below just try this without thinking about it for me.
Go to settings switch ALL settings to Medium ( Just for Now don't panic )
Set res @ 1024 x 768. Then go back and delete the cache files then reenter game and try it. I am convinced one of the Higher settings causes theses crashes but have not identified which one it is for each individual system/dude.
At least if it runs sweet at the above settings we have a starting point and can forget about the BS below.

Its one of the following.
Not the correct patch. = correct patch is 1.12
New AV/Firewall update blocking it. = Allow.
Punkbuster updater not worked. = Download PB exe. run it in BF2 files.
Multiple cache files. = Delete them reset settings lets BF2 recreate.
New prog causing conflict. = Backtrack progs installed since probs. Bin All you only need BF2 on your system nothing else matters.
Screen resolution conflict. = Start game in 800x600 then sort it.
Numerous issues caused by incorrect res at start up and with messing with your settings.

Basically Strip everything out.
Use reg cleaner and any other prog you got to clear everything out.
Defrag your system and reboot.
Instal BF2 then patch to 1.12.
Then adjust settings then Defrag.
Then play it and never touch the settings again.

Got SF installed again now after twiddling with the registry and now it doesnt start at all, im in the same position i was in at the start of the day. :(

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +modPath mods/xpack +ignoreAsserts 1

it says this on the target of the shortcut BTW.

Was there a punk buster auto update last week?? loads of people including myself suddenly got problems with bf2 about that time, although they were running it fine up till then, for me my sound went crazy and all solutions ive searched for point to PB conflicts?

Ok i think ive fixed my problems, think there was a problem in my omega options, i changed this and it seems to work.#

Now i remeber why i dont play SF, its total junk, doesnt play well at all. Back to the classic i think!
