With everything on medium, 4 aa 0 af im getting a really bad fps. below 40 which is unplayable for me. Would this improve if i get a x1900xt 512mb? im worried i would have to upgrade to ddr2, better cpu and the rest aswel, thanx

Thats not right, on my system I get 70+ fps all the time on max settings @1440x900 only dropping with loads of explosions. Try a defrag and make sure adaptive AA is off in drivers, a reinstall might help too.

Trying really hard not to sound like a troll here, but i'm guessing shoddy EA programming is contributing to your poor performance.

I don't think there's going to be a massive jump from an X1800XT to an X1900XT.

so why the f am i not getting this, i cant even play bf2 with everything high on low resolutions, i dont wanna buy a x1900xt and find it to be a waste of money. Are you sure its not my cpu ram or anything?

Back when i had a x1800xt 512 i played bf2 fine with max settings, 4aa 16af

first 4 pics are with max settings, bf2142 does take abit more pc power but nothing super

something is wrong with your computer mate.

bf2142 is perfectly playable on my x1800xt with everything on high at 1280x1024. ok it is 512ram, but that should only really make a difference to aa and high textures right. my cpu is the same speed as yours as well. you sure you've got everything in ccc set to application controlled?

you tried doing malware searches etc?

@ SameSuspect - what res are you playing at??
My 256mb x1800xt runs bf2 fully maxed out @ 1280x1024. Only played the demo of 2142 but ran smoothly on that too. Looks like your problem is elsewhere.
For a quick comparrison run 3dmark 05 or 06 and post your score. This will give us an idea on how your cards running.

im sick of formatting and reinstalling, i have all the lastest drivers installed and everything in the driver settings is set to app controlled,

My 3dmark score is 9000+

something is deffinetly slowing it down, everything high in bf2 is too crap to play

bf2 and bf2142 can be messed up by your soundcard, try playing it without your card plugged in. and read the EA UK forums

Which 3DMark version did you run??

Mine is running BF2 maxed out averaging about 80fps

thats a good score for your card and i presume you ran 3d 05 - you should be fine running it on max settings - you really do need to totally uninstall and start again mate - defraging MAY help although its a bit of a sot in the dark

It doesnt sound to me like a hardwear problem at your end - what internet connection have you got?funny how nobody has asked that yet!

my rig I get 100fps normally at 1680 by 1050....... BUT I had a sandy [email protected] and a 7800gtx 256mb and 2GB of ram which is very similar to what you have now I would have never upgraded at all if I only played BF2 as my frames were in the 60-80fps most of the time, no slow down what so ever (all setting maxed out except shadows I had off as I hate them they look naff (I had a crt back then and so res would vary but norm played at 1280 by 1024).

Just out of curiosity have you tried running your rig at stock speeds OR more importantly tried tweaking your settings like disabling the rubbish shadows and turning dynamic lighting to low and AA to 2x? These setting will not change the look much but may boost frames a lot. Res like others have mentioned is an important factor.

upgrading the rest of the rig if you are a gamer at this point would be pointless as your rig is more than capable however yes a x1900xt 512mb (check out frame difference http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2864&p=4) or 7900gto (basically as you prob know a 7900gtx) would increase frames nicely I mean my upgrade from a 7800gtx was a very nice boost in frames for me.

I have tried everything, formatting, defragmenting, different clocks, (including stock) I even bought a new motherboard and soundcard hoping it would fix it.

if you say your getting an average of 70+ with everything high, then im assuming its got to be a hardware problem because the ammount of times i have formatted and reinstalled everything (with updated driver) is ridiculous.

unless im installing something thats messing things up for me.

I DO get rid of as many proccesors from msconfig's startup tab

i have to lower everything in bf2 to be able to get completly smooth gameplay.

and i get 9000+ in 3Dmark05

I'll ask again, what resolution are you gaming at in bf2 when you are getting the problems?? Everything maxed out with my card (256mb x1800xt) @ 1280x1024 results in between 75-105 fps on all maps, so unless your trying to game at a stupidly high res then that card should walk all over battlefield. Your 3dmark scores are right so that would indicate that your graphics card is working spot on. Do you have issues in other games or just battlefield??

yeah this would be helpful if you could give us this info buddy?

ps

3DMARKS do not really mean much. My mate has two x1600xt's he gets like 8000 3dmarks (05) but his rig is absolutely RUBBISH on bf2 at my res of 1680 by 1050 even on lows his frames are consistently under 30.

ALSO in battlefield 2 terms (playing a mixture of medium and highs at 1024 768) the 6600 256mb (2000 3dmarks) gets lower but more stable frames than the 6600gt 128mb (4000 3dmarks) which has unstable frames, in general they are higher but it will frequently stutter and occasionally drop significantly. Both these PC's are in my house and near identical specs except GPU. My point being battlefield 2 is a picky game and does not follow 3dmarks scores as such.
