BF3 Beta FPS thread

Disabled crossfire and kept my graphics settings the same. Obviously the framrate dropper to averageing 40fps but no stutter, there was one instance but lasted barely a second think that's down to it being a Beta.

MSI showed no more than 990MB of VRAM used, so that leaves 36MB as its a 1024MB card. According to my tests I'm sure this is a crossfire issue.... some new drivers have been released today so I'm going to install them over 11.10 and report back on how crossfire fares :)

11.10 Preview V2: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU122AMDCat1110PreDriverV2.aspx

'Improves performance in Battlefield 3 Open Beta release for both non-Anti-Aliasing and application enabled Anti-Aliasing cases on AMD CrossFire™ configurations using the AMD Radeon HD 6000 and AMD Radeon HD 5000 series of products. '

The game doesn't require more than 1GB vRAM at normal settings, it can and does prefetch more textures onto the card's memory if there's any more available, though.

Hitting the memory limit would be disastrous and we would have seen some pretty nasty posts about the performance of the beta in that case.

I just noticed your image saying max. 3092mb memory usage on your gfx card, I thought SLI and Crossfire both do max of one card, so if you have two 1024mb cards you won't have 2048 but just 1024mb memory, isn't that right? Or is SLI different than crossfire in that specific case?

I've got a GTX 480 and I wonder what the best thing would be for me as I really wanna play it smooth at 2560x1440... probably get another GTX 480 :D

It shows the total of loaded memory from both cards on AMD cards so it is in fact only half of that that is being used.

I am playing on my middle monitor because it just feels better. Medium setting with my rig gets 40-50fps now in Metro. Caspian... pfft... don't even go there!

Annoying at having 3 GPUs and 6GB GRAM and using 70%

Should be sorted for the final release though, just never expected this game to be as demanding as it is. Is the game only using 70% of one gpu for you with the other 2 idle?

I'm playing with everything on High and Textures on Ultra at 1650X1050. Never goes below 65fps on Caspian border with 63 players. My cards have 1GV VRAM and since installing the 11.10 ver2 preciew drivers and CAP I no longer get the stuttering.

You only need more that 1GB of VRAM if your playing at higher resolutions that 1920X1080

But that's just adding the VRAM of all three GPUs shirley? What are individual card VRAMs?

I hope so mate. Or I am selling two screens and my 6970! Over kill if the only FPS game worth playing in the year plays like crap!

Nah, luckily, 70% of each most of the time. Still, that's only just over 2 being used :(

Who is Shirley? :)

Yep. 2GB 6970 and 4GB 6990 = 6, right?

I have now found out that the latest MSIAB allows me to monitor VRAM usage. I'll post some scores later.

Indeed ^ you have effectively 2GB OF VRAM, not 6

You are "limited" by the single GPU VRAM - I've often seen VRAM usesge go over 2GB at 6000x1200

No.

2Gb of Vram per gpu. The maximum amount of vram addressable at any one time is only 2Gb.

So a 6970 + a 6990 = 2gb of vram.

Ah, I see. I guess I didn't understand it then.

What is point of crossfire cards then if you can only access 2GB?

I reviewed Crysis just before and it registered 5550MB of MEM usage??

The extra grunt of the additional card(s) will help with basic FPS increase the VRAM for your eye candy AA etc - I swapped my 1.5 GB 580s as they simply couldn't handle the increased eye candy with multi monitor set ups - the 3GB versions certainly help out

That said BF3 Alpha and Beta certainly put them through their paces .....

Yes, a quick google of "fps vram crossfire" explained the parallel nature of VRAM usage. Oh well. I guess having 3 GPUs each with 2GB will allow decent framerates. But I hope better drivers come out

Turning down your AA should have a noticeable effect

So, single screen on "Ultra" (if it exists), and I get 150fps with only 50% GPU usage

But with 6048x, I can just turn down AA and lower VRAM usage?

Make sense. This is what I had to do for BC2 to get decent framerates

I roo have a 260GTX (although it's the 216 core version with 1.8GB VRAM) and in conjunction with i5-750 @ 3.6GHz and 4GB RAM I run BF3 at 1920x1200 in the "Low" preset and get 45-70FPS, regardless of whether I'm playing Metro or CB.

It's not bad and perfectly playable, but I'm upgrading because I want eye candy!

Thats interesting!

It was cack with my '260! :o

Ok, I'm running a Q8300, DDR2 etc but by comparison, with the GTX480 it rocks along with everything maxxed.

I have the earlier 192 core '260 incidentally, although I don't think they are that much slower than the later variants.

regardless, I would still advise an upgrade and am glad that I upgraded mine.

Weird, mine are both in the 95-99% range. It does drop occasionaly though and thats when it gets unplayable.
