BF3 Beta FPS thread

I tried it in the end, could get about 60 or just over on Caspian with 2 6950s. Not bad really all things considered, that was on high/ultra, although ultra apparently doesn't work. No AA though, thats a killer and fairly unimportant on 30".

Was it playing smooth?

I have similar spec. Don't know if I was getting microstutter or what but unless fraps was showing consistantly 70+fps the game felt jittery with unlocked and overclocked crossfired 6950s ... wierdly, the game felt just as playable with a single card at those same settings even though the fps was nearly halved ????

im surprised BF3 is struggling so badly imagine spending £500 on a graphics card and you still get barely 30fps...

Maybe they just build BF3 for the next 5 years again, maybe ultra settings will be good and possible when Nvidia/ATI release there next gen cards ?

Is high settings getting much improved framerates then, like 60fps with modern systems ?

High settings give pretty good frame rates for me on a 2500k and 6950, in comparison to "Ultra".

Tbh, for the way the game looks (it does look very good at times), the performance seems low to me when maxed out. Not saying its bad looking, but I can't see why my hardware and indeed others with much better GPU/GPU's struggle to run the game at full settings, given how the beta looked.

I've seen games that look better and run better.

Smooth for me, maybe something to do with the unlocking, both my cards unlock but I've never bothered, might be worth flipping the switch to see.

Thanks,

Yeah it's still a beast. Well I shall see on release.

I7 920 DO @ 4 Gig

6 GB tri channel ram
850w Corsair PSU

You'll be fine without aa. Those older gen cards don't do too well with aa and with only 1gb on each I think they would just hit a vram limit. Other than that will probably max the game out on ultra.

I think my 480 SLI was hitting a vram limit at 1.5gb to put it in perspective with max settings and AA on 1920x1200. However I never got chance to check before the beta ended.

I put it on max (which is seems wasn't max) running at 1920x1080. I was getting 60+ sometimes, but often it would be in the 40s, and possibly even in the 30s :(

Thing is, I'm running my 480 at 800mhz core so there isn't much room there or in the CPU. Sad times.

Hopefully there'll be some settings that can be disabled that give massive performance boost but little difference (like HBAO in BC2). I dunno if those options did anything in the beta.

I would upgrade, but sticking with green (for 3D vision) the 580 wouldn't give me must have a boost over my overclocked 480. 590 worth it much?

This post makes me SAD. Surely not upgrade time for me too?:(

Won't know until final code. BTW, what voltages are you running your 480 at to get 840? I've got an aftermarket cooler on so I probably have some room for higher clocks.

Stock volts! :D

Over-volting does little to increase the stable clock on my chip. It just gets hotter!:(

Keeping it cool is the trick on my particular GPU.

Well pleased with 840 on the core Kombustor stable at stock volts. Due to the EPIC Zalman cooler IMO.;)

Man dont even feel like blowing the dust out of my Radeon 5870 1gig card after hearing BF3 performance.

Really am hoping the final code or as someone mentioned one or 2 options to disable to increase fps.... release date just feels so far away lol

I'm not sure if anyone else managed to get this up, but when playing I must have accidentally pressed a key combo which brings up a little info box in the top left? It displayed renderer and a coulple of extra bits of info relating to the game. One was VRAM usage and when Caspian Border came back for the last couple of days it was down as using ~800Mb - That being on 1680x1050, everything on High and a couple on Ultra. Whether the whole "Ultra quality resources weren't included" statement is true, I don't know, but it's getting quite close to using 1Gb.
