Bf3 minimum gpu

I have a GTX580 1.5mb and it runs smoothly at 1080p at max settings, never had any graphics problems

I don't believe you.

My last card was a GTX580 @ 950MHz and i couldn't run the 4xAA in BF3 without it plummeting in performance to the point it's unplayable.
AA off or 2x and FXAA on was the most i could get.

Thanks for ya feedback

So overall 2gb plus, roughly 1000mhz, about 250 quid mark would run it on a biggish monitor on HD ?

yup :D

paid £230 for my 7950 and it runs like a charm.
you could get a 7850 and lower a few settings without any real noticeable difference in quality though to be honest.

I've only played it with two graphics cards so here goes...

I had a 4870 and found bf3 pretty unplayable on that, I now have a 6870 and it flies.

4870 = unplayable
6870 = it flies

Get a 6870.

I have a 6950 2gb and it really does fly on max settings, one of my buddies still has his old trusty gtx 460 and it runs rather well on that I was shocked as I expected less from and old card.

Must have been an issue with your rig, because I can play the same in BF3 with mine and not have any performance drops.

Same, I've had stuttering after a 4 hour game session on the odd occasion. Despite shutting down and reloading the game it is still there. Leaving the pc to cool down for a bit and it's fine.
Note quite sure what it is because the GPU temps aren't abnormally high. I think it's a game bug myself.

Edit: just to clarify this only happened three times despite playing everyday for 1 and a half months.

better question for this thread is whats your friends budget?

+1

at end of day all rest is unimportant until budget is known.

also one person is okay with 30 fps while another wont be happy with 60 minimum which is very expensive at high res and even the highest cards dip below 60 fps at some point on big mp servers.

Ive been running BF3 on a GTX460 and its quite good actually. Settings are all on High and the card has a memory overclock but nothing severe. No intention of upgrading for a while yet.

Budget ... Well my mate said there is 400 set away for a gpu
Just I thought he could save done money

But then again if he had 400 he could get a mint card and bit have to worry I suppose

Yeah I was just thinking, 'hardly anyone has mentioned frame rates' - 'acceptable performance' means nothing unless you define what is acceptable.

Not in the slightest. 3930K @ 4.5GHz and 16Gb Sammy Green @ 2333MHz, nothing holding it back. It just took the beating. Had to upgrade from the GTX580 to play with decent fps and without frames dropping like mad.
