Hi All,

Been trying an failing to get BF3 running smoothly for a long time now. Running as per my spec with the settings on medium for pretty much all settings.

50% of the time its ok but I seem to get a lot of stuttering when moving around. Its particularly bad when parachuting and moving the mouse around, it stutters like hell, other time it can be ok. I've tried turning off HT as has been mentioned but didn't really help to much.

Other stuff I have seen is with regard to a manually created config file and it was this I was curious about, anyone got any suggestions on what I should try settings wise? I see I already have a user.cfg with the BF3 directory with the following in:

WorldRender.SpotLightShadowmapResolution 256
RenderDevice.TrippleBufferingEnable 0
RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit 1

Any ideas peeps?

For the first post:

All of your points I have been tried, I have disabled HT and my i7 is @ 3.8GHz. Just to add I do get a good solid frame rate it just looks like choppy at times, thanks for your answer :D

Rusty - I play at 1920 x 1200 (although I turned it down to 1080 to try and help) but I will try Precision X see what I get.

I should also say that I recenly had a Windforce 670 (which i sent back) that could max the game out but I had the same issue with that too :S

Cpu at 3.8ghz will be fine. When i had 470's in sli, (i7 920 @4ghz asus p6t deluxe v2), i tried a single card, no msaa, 1920x1200, 16x af, no blur and SSAO on medium settings it played fine. Vram usage was at 900mb iirc. With sli i could run ultra with the above setings and maintain a good frame rate but vram use was hitting 1213mb, (70fps avg). I also had stuttering issues which the user.cfg helped to cure. Now on a windforce 670 as well.

The user.cfg i used contained the following.

Renderdevice.forcerenderaheadlimit 1
renderdevice.triplebufferingenable 0

Which i see youve already set though.

OK VRAM usage is just under 1GB, averaging 980MB, looking at GPU, its around 80-90% at these settings.

Imm convinced its down to setting thats why I wanted to know about this config file etc

Oh ok thanks anyway. Its really annoying your running towards a tank to jump in for example, and theres big jumps as it were, not smooth at all :(

You can adjust a setting with the NVidia control panel, which solved the same problem I was having, The default value is 3, which you need to change to 1. It achieves the same setting as the user.cfg. Someone will be able to tell you that because I am not at home atm.

The nvidia drivers are not at their best at the moment tbh the games been very choppy over the last few months for me also.
