BF4 Crashes + overclock issues

Hi all, I'm having a little issue with BF4. If I have my CPU @ 4.6Ghz then BF4 seems to crash within the first 5-10mins, No blue screen errors just a BF4 crash.

But If I run with 4.4Ghz then It doesn't crash (at least not with frequency even managed 2h's non stop without a crash at 4.4)

Of course a lot of people are crashing right now and that makes it hard to determine what is going on and if my 4.6ghz is crashing it more than 4.4

No other game crashes when using 4.6ghz in fact Batman: Arkham origins LOVES it

any ideas or should I just leave it at 4.4 for a week or two until EA pull their fingers out?

just remembered it did this during the BETA too! had to drop down to 4.4 for that

Its all over the BF4 forums that people are getting random crash's. My client stops working about every 4 games these past few days.

If you wanted to know for sure then I guess you would have to wait until EA/Dice sort BF4 out.

Personally if it was working fine and dandy for me at 4.4ghz and would just enjoy it at that :) and then when I hear wind EA have sorted the crashing out try to figrure it out then, would make it easier!

Quite a few server crashes for me today, but system wise its been excellent. Albeit im currently running at stock. But the game still runs great. Ill probably reapply my cpu clock soon though.

TBH i think theres a strong possability its just the BF4 servers
Our GSP's forum is full of renters complaining of the lame server code
servers crashing 5 or 6 times a day is a regular occurance

I`d wait until they fix the game first before blaming system and or clocks. Lots of people crashing lol

+1

Many 'App crash' and screen freeze during gameplay. I can get maybe 20 minutes of smooth action then suddenly it bombs. Tried many driver updates so now the ball is in EA's court.

Well if it doesn't crash at all at 4.4ghz but always crashes at 4.6ghz then it must be that your overclock is not stable...

I dropped to stock and played it (all defaults in BIOS) and same happened. At least I know it's definitely not the OC that is contributing now, all the errors are so far driver related or issues with the game code/server communications.

Well it seems 4.6 helps it crash faster but 4.4 still crashes from time to time. Hopefully they fix it soon, gotta say yesterday was a bit better rarely had a crash but the servers kept going down lost a 22k score with multiple unlocks :( one of those rare rounds that would take 5 normal rounds to complete.

I get the same crashing issues at 4.5GHz and 1.32V.

Backed off the OC down to 4.4 and that has stopped it.

I had the same issue with BF3 which I cured with more Vcore, but I was starting to put more Vcore through it that I liked so I resorted to backing down the OC.

The issue was never fixed in BF3 so don't expect DICE to fix it this time either.

My take on it is this.

The game engine makes heavy use of the CPU and all the unstable clocks folks are running are becoming apparent.
Unstable GPU clocks as well to add to the fun.

Add a sprinkling of server side issues and it's tears all round.
Folks who have got stable PC's are being punished by those in game who haven't, as when they crash they take the others with them.

BF4 is P95 for gamers :D

How can unstable clocks be on a default stock machine?

This happens in both SP and MP, when it crashes it can sometimes cause a white screen where alt+f4 do not work and you cannot access the task manager.

You can tab around and see the taskbar but using other programs needs the BF4.exe to be terminated. I hate having to reboot when this happens.

Run your machine at stock and if the crashes stop then it most definitely is overclock related, this is why you should stability test with Prime95 etc there is always new software around the corner which will push your system harder than all previous software. Why take the risk of stability issues for a few extra fps?

Even if a system is Prime stable it could still crash in things like BF4 due to the extra 300W load on the PSU and extra heat being pumped into the case.

If it's happening at stock then it's most likely to be software bugs, faulty memory or GPU related.

That's what happens when a VC clock is not stable.
Can you loop heaven4 and valley without issue ?

It's not currently overclocked! I reset to default in the BIOS to check, and have been all day. Since BF4 has been terrible to play I went to stock.

When overclocked it has been running at 4.6Ghz chiefly playing planetside 2. I can bench with AIDA, Cinebench, 3DMark, Heaven, Fritz Chess...

I must add that I'm totally prime stable @ 4.6 , ran an 8hour+ test and it passed absolutely fine my GPU is also stable and I dont get fluctuations with core clocks in BF4, Once they iron out the bugs because the game is pretty darn intensive I'll play around with vcore if 4.6 still crashes it.
