BFBC2 crashing badly

Recently (last 3 days or so) BFBC2 has been crashing, not the usual CTD but a catastrophic crash that requires a hard reboot to fix.

I'm not the only one with the issue as I found this youtube video that shows what happens http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B84qjrrXk6A&feature=related

Basically I can't play the game for more than 45mins-1hr before this happens and I need to reboot my computer.

Not cool.

Google has thrown up the idea that its an issue with punkbuster and realtek audio drivers but I dont want to play on non PB servers and I don't want to play with no sound either.
Has anyone else on here had this problem and/or found a way to fix it?

My gfs brother has been having this issue too. He also came up with those 2 things (eventually) and isn't having any trouble with it anymore. Though as far as i know he didn't have to use non-PB servers or play without sound.

I think he has to update PB every time he wants to play BC2, no idea how he goes about it though. As for the driver issue i'm not sure how he sorted that out. I would ask him but he seems to be asleep so unless someone else figures it out I'll ask him tomorrow.

I've had this issue as well recently and thought I'd tracked it down to RadeonPro as all seems fine when it's not running. I haven't had time to try updating it though. I'm sure my PB is up to date but I'll check as well, although I have no Realtek audio so it may be irrelevant.

It only contains the graphic settings, which you can change back when you load the game. Not sure if it deletes the campaign saved games though but if you just play multiplayer like me then it's worth doing.

This happened to me, it's related to the ATI Drivers, anything above 10.8 would make me crash, so I had to do a complete format and reinstall the drivers, currently im on 10.8 as its stable for me.
This is the only way to sort out the problem, as I have tried everything myself.. nothing worked besides this.

I'm trying to work out what I did 3 days ago that could have affected this and I can't think of anything that has updated or been installed. There are so many conflicting views on what is the cause, Graphics? Sound? Punkbuster? Who knows?

The first thing you could try is the older ATI drivers? Believe me this annoyed me so much.. I couldn't find out the problem for about a month (even made a post on here).

Just make sure you wipe out everything to do with ATI before you roll back ;) (most people recommend driver sweeper).

It's the latest punkbuster that's causing it (March 9th update). Lots of people on other forums are having the same problem.

Try closing MSI afterburner if you have it.

Just read this on another forum

@Everybody
If you get hard lock-up, freeze with BRRRRRR sound randomly but probably no more than 40 minutes of continuous gaming; don't start to find a culprit in your system, I tried everything under the sun, no solution.
PunkBuster messed up in the last update of Wednesday 03.09.2011 Version 2.263.
Send them a Web Ticket, it may help them or speed up the corrective.

Weak.

Punkbuster is just problematic. My friend couldn't play BC2 for about 2 months after he got a new laptop last year as Punkbuster decided that Nvidia Optimus was actually two PCs using the same internet connection so wouldnt let him connect to any servers.

I had this as well a few weeks ago, only happened the once. I use a dedicated soundcard, (Asus xonar dx), thought it may have been an audio/gpu issue, i used to get a lot of bc2 issues when using onboard sound. Hasnt happened again since thankfully.
