Have just acquired the following components

Mobo:BFG nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
CPU:Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
Memory:Crucial Ballistix 1GB (2x512MB) DDR2 PC2-6400
GFX:XFX 8800GTS
PSU:Enermax Liberty 620W ELT620AWT ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU

Having built it (24 pin mobo, 8 pin cpu and 6 pin gpu connected) I'm not getting a post; just "--" and the blue, orange and green leds on the top right hand corner of the board.

As far as I can tell all connections are correct the cpu is correctly fitted as is the cpu fan and I can't see anything touching the case mobo mount. Mouse/Keyboard are USB but aren't getting power anyway.

Has anyone experienced anything similar or is this an RMA?

Cheers

Try booting up with one stick of memory, also make sure that the clear CMOS jumper is in the default setting which is pin 2,3. If that fails try another stick of DDR2 and manually put the settings in for the crucial set.

EDIT: Can't remember if theres a 4 pin molex connector on the mainboard as well, if there is plug that in as well to be on the safe side.

Have tried:-
Memory sticks individually
With/without the 4pin gfx molex
Resetting CMOS (making sure the jumper is 2-3 afterwards)

Sadly don't have any spare DDR2 lying around at the moment but testing individual components was my next line of attack.

May well be the memory, perhaps if you could borrow a stick of DDR2 of someone then it may boot which will allow you to alter the settings. I'm glad i purchased the Corsair Dominator set worked right out of the box without any problems.

Yes there is, make sure it is in.

I have that motherboard, I know its a cliché but try reseating everything, especially the CPU. Good luck.

vagueness, i have exactly the same problem as you, only difference is that my pc has been working fine the last couple of months, and suddenly it just didnt post. do you have a blue and orange led on the mobo lit when it is in standby?

Is this out of the case? If not it could be a shorting problem so take it out of the case stick it on the box it came in and try booting, if it boots you're creating a short somewhere, if not then its RMA time I'm afraid.

Seems quite a few people are having this problem recently.

Initially only the blue led was lit and then the orange and green leds as well when powered up. Since resetting the CMOS (including removing the battery) I've had the blue and orange leds in standby.

Tried it with the GFX molex to no effect.

Have found a couple of forum posts elsewhere related to this, one the guy hadn't taken the back protector off the cpu (oh dear) and the other solved the problem by clipping back some of the excessively long solder points on the rear of the mobo, specifically those of a couple of the larger coils on the board, however this don't appear to be anywhere near touching the case on mine and I'm guessing this might somewhat affect my ability to return the board.

Got a few more things to try with different memory/out of case etc then it seems likes it's time to RMA it.
