Ive got a creaking old 2500k @ 4.3, 16gb 1600 Ram and a 970 and play at 1080 with a 144hz monitor. Really enjoying BFV but I'm taking a battering on frames :( even with everything set at low i'm getting drops down to 35-40 when it gets very busy. I'm assuming its down to my i5 ? watching system usage in game looks like my gpu is around 70% but my cpu is in the high 90% most of the time.

I've located a 3770k that's never been clocked so I was going to try that and see if it helped, or should I just upgrade now ? I really can't upgrade to what i'd like at the moment as works not great, I could prob raise £400 with the sale of my old kit and was looking at the Ryzen 5 2600 bundle.

If the 3770k would bump me 10-15 fps I'd be able to hold off for a while until I can afford what I'd really like.

Thanks :)

doesnt BFV use multi cores? if so a ryzen cpu would be much better.

it will help yes, ryzen 1600/2600/1700/2700 would be great! even at 1080p but intel still holds the lead at that resolution due to IPC and clock speed. prob see 10+ fps gain specially if intel is rocking 5ghz all cores.
Upscale ingame to 1440p and ryzen is back in the game!!!!

your 970 might not be up to scratch anymore either, i suspect 144hz be more difficult to run nowadays compared to when that card was release, also the vram limit, i dont know what this game is like yet, but id imagine it has a high requirements like BF1 has or better.

well isnt that interesting, just looked up the game on cdkeys, i know its not release till tomorrow, but it does state the requirements and apparently this is all you need?

RECOMMENDED Battlefield V
  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10 or later
  • Processor (AMD): AMD Ryzen 3 1300X
  • Processor (Intel): Intel Core i7 4790 or equivalent
  • Memory: 12GB RAM
  • Graphics card (NVIDIA): NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
  • Graphics card (AMD): AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB
  • DirectX: 11.1 Compatible video card or equivalent
  • Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection
  • Available Disk Space: 50GB
MINIMUM for Battlefield V
  • OS: 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10
  • Processor (AMD): AMD FX-8350
  • Processor (Intel): Core i5 6600K
  • Memory: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics card (NVIDIA): NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 2GB
  • Graphics card (AMD): AMD Radeon RX 560 / HD 7850 2GB
  • DirectX: 11.0 Compatible video card or equivalent
  • Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection
  • Hard-drive space: 50GB

so if im not mistaken then your 2500k(stock) should be on par or better than the FX-8350 assuming what ive read over time to be accurate? and anyone with the knowledge knows the 970 is better than both the 660 and 1050, id imagine you have tried a beta that may not have been optimized?

on a plus i dont know how they figure the difference between 1300x and the 4th gen i7, but it looks like i might stand a chance to be able to play it well lol

I've been playing the final release since the 8th on origin access, have all the latest drivers also. I get 60-70 fps when there is not much going on but as soon as there are a couple of tanks and loads of players I'm getting drops down to 35-40 at points with lagging.

ah right okay then, i dont use origin much, so didnt realize, well in that case have you tired to overclock the 970? what settings you at because your computer falls in the middle, so be low-medium? 144hz im sure is killing it, try what the first reply was and just do normal 1080?

Sorry was the first post confusing, i'm using a 144hz monitor but I'm not locking the frame rate. I'm playing at 1080 with in game scaling set at 100, every setting set to low with Future Frame Rendering set to on. Only thing I have turned up is the FOV to 90 Hoz.

no i wasnt confused, the first person to reply suggested 1080, i am going to assume either they miss-read or was suggest not to run at 144hz and if it was the latter then i was also agreeing with it, ive never had beyond 75hz, but id imagine whatever monitor you have could be downclocked or whatever its call to a hertz that works smoothly?

suppose if all options have been covered with no result or too much hassle then yeah just upgrade the gpu for now since your i5 is overclocked.

just a quick fyi i was just playing the game trial after hours of download waiting and i used the high preset under dx11 and with extended view ranges and i was getting 60fps(seemed like it was locked) with the odd dips down to 30 during the opening, but mostly above 50, but when it came to online it was laggy and while the fps was 60 for a bit, depending on the map(domination) it went as low as 27 and hovered between 30-50..

my cpu usage was 80-100% across all 4 cores, my ram was 6.8-7.6gb(i only have 8gb stick), in my case the gpu usage was 99/100 then 0 back and fourth without effect and the vram barely went above 2gb as its max and i only play at fullscreen 1366x768 lol.

my computer bar the ram pretty much meets the recommended requirements(1300x not much better), so either the game isnt properly optimized or for me theres issues and i run stock settings.

Just to update I bought a Ryzen 5 2600, MSI B450 Tomahawk and Team group 16GB 3000 Ram still using my old 970.

Running on all low settings Im getting 120-140 solid frames, at medium settings 80-90. No crushing frame drops at all, smooth as butter even with the 2600 at stock :)

nice mate! manage to see overaly of how the cpu workload is compared to the previous system ?

also, running DX12 ? i know its a bit broken at mo, but when its fixed... should help again !

should be able tio push 4ghz all cores just fine :D

ideal results then, certainly pays to have 8 threads or 6 cores in the sense of this game then, you just need to whack in a 1060 6gb minimum and you should be able to crack those settings higher.

what was your system ram and vram usage?

Clocked to 4.0ghz now @ 1.35v, I'll look at core usage tonight and post some pics, I usually play on low anyway in BF to help pick people out but may look at a new GPU

should play on higher quality lol, dont spend lots of money for console graphics.. your 970 might hold up to a certain degree, the issue with my system as someone pointed out to me is my 1200 is bottlenecking in that game which is understandable, so you shouldnt have too much issue especially overclocking it.

Running at 4.0 @ 1.35V temp sits at 51 in game, load on all the cores is fairly even and sits at 65% ish on most maps but up to 80 on occasion. On my old 2500k at 4.4 it was 99% all the time in game :)

HTH

thats good, i bet when it hits 80% your around a lot of players in a firefight ?

hopefully we have reached the point of Cores/threads being used correctly :)

still, want to see a perfect games thread wise, Lost Planet 2/3 :)

Yeah multiple tanks, planes and plenty of infantry. I turned up the settings to high and tbh my 970 wasnt too bad at 60-70 frames, seemed stable. Have been looking at a 1070ti or a Vega 56 but I'll probably put it off now unless there are some good deals over xmas.
