My parent's bedroom suffers from a condensation problem, putting our two dehumifiers in there managed to prevent mould forming on the carpet, wallpaper and window like it did one time, it was always the plan to swap to one heavy duty dehumidier, but it wasn't urgent, it was working ok as it was, I've just chucked one of them away as I noticed a burning smell in the hall, which I traced to the dehumifier, took a look inside and the motor for the fan has been burning (the windings are blackened, and the plastic is burnt and melted off). So we need to get the heavy duty one soon, so anyone have any recommendations? know where the best place to purchase such an item would be?

How heavy is heavy duty? I bought an Ebac 2850E recently and it's great, as far as dehimidifiers go :p

It extracts up to 21 litres per day and is suitable for a 5 bedroom house apparently. No idea if that's a help to you.

Do you notice any benefits to your health with a dehumidifier? Are they loud too? I reckon if I bought one it would just get clogged up with a load of cat hair that would be floating about the house :D And can you leave them in one room and it would dehumidify your entire house (or at least most of it)

Don't forget that B&Q often have very cheap examples towards the front of the shop, often without boxes or in damaged boxes, etc. but of course you have to go to the shop and check out the selection yourself and forget ringing them up. If you're lucky though, you can pick up a great bargain.

Make sure you go for one with a continuous drain facility or large tank if you can't drain it away anywhere. OThersies you end up having to empty the tank every few days which can get tedious especially as the design of the removable tanks are often a bit naff.

I use one permanently to control the humidity of the room my piano is in. Keeps it at around 55% :)
