I returned my Asus P8P67pro B2. I bought an MSI P67A-GD65 B3 instead. Built it tonight and it's working fine straight out the box (are you listening,Asus? [dig, dig
]).
Anyway, my idle temps with the Asus board hovered around the 36C mark. Not unreasonable I believe. I did spread the paste with a credit card on the cpu when I installed the 2500k in the Asus. This time, with the MSI board, I used the pea method and let the heatsink do its own spreading on contact. My idle temps as I type are 31C. A whopping 5C difference. Clearly the method of application for the thermal paste has made a difference. I was also wondering if the manufacturer of the motherboard has anything to do with this drop in temps. Vcore?
What else might contribute to this perceived drop in temps? I say "perceived" because I can't know for sure now if either board shows accurate temps.
Mind you, this motherboard has only been running for a couple of hours so far. I hope I'm not tempting fate

Edit: 10 minutes of prime gave me 42C, 46C, 48C, 50C. Nice.
