*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

Thanks, even took my watch off just to make sure

Never thought of removing my watch for each weigh in!

The heat here is playing havoc with my weighs. I’ve been doing it daily for no other reason than convenience rather than properly stressing about results as I know things fluctuate from day to day.

I’ve been slowly coming down over June then at random I jumped 2kg last Thursday for a couple of days inc yesterday and then today it’s gone again.

I don’t think I’ll ever understand those huge swings when stuff remains generally constant.

I find similar when we get some actual heat over here my weight bounces all over the place.

199.2 this morning with my watch on :D so not just a blip yesterday

Thanks @blairw big gym sessions took a bit of a back seat for the last couple of years mainly because I'd lost my mojo for it really but I've recently moved to a much better gym so big lifting is back and I think my main goal is just to see how lean I can get.

People have always said I've got a really good shape muscularity wise so now I'm intrigued to see what's actually under all this chub.

Started the year at 350lb this mornings weigh in at 305lb. Almost at the 50lb lost mark but past few weeks things have started to slow down as I think portion sizes have started to creep up. Target is to lose 100lb, I am 6ft 7 so would still be a bit overweight but feel its a good weight for me to be at. About 10 years got down to 235 and the amount of calories I had to stick to in order to lose weight just made me miserable which in turn made me give up and lose all the work I had done to get there. This time though its a more sensible approach, cutting down on portion size and being a bit more sensible with snacking during the day so a small bag of nuts and a protein bar rather than 3 bars of chocolate and couple packets of crisps!

Just weighed myself post bike ride and was 1.5kg lower.

Not sure I should count that though given it’s 32c and my body is probably down to 10% water right now

Weighing before and after an activity, particularly in the heat can be a good guide to how much you need to be taking on board for post activity rehydration. If you're 1.5KG lower post ride then you have lost 1.5litres of fluid and you need to get that back in your system ideally.

Yeah that’s a good shout. I was using it to help guide me for hydration mid activity but given I drank ~2 litres during it then it shoes just how much I sweat!

Yep you’d be shocked - I am a very heavy sweater, but especially salty too! I kept bonking / cramping on the bike a few years back despite taking on enough fuel but I was losing so much salt during activity, but then hydrating a lot during but without replenishing the salt content so that’s worth watching out for also - hyponatremia is no joke and sadly lives have been lost at long hot races where people have over hydrated in response to the heat

Cheers. I don’t have a huge supply of electrolyte tablets which I tend to use daily.
Like you I sweat a lot and it’s taken a long time to learn proper fueling.

Today was a disaster but that said more about my actual fitness and the seat.

I’d like to get back out on the road bike for some lovely z1/z2 rides but a combination of time and a bit of a mental block on road riding is preventing me at the moment. Another person killed due to the recklessness / selfishness of others around here a few weeks back takes the desire away.

If I get to a point where I’m getting up super early (5am) I could maybe get out for an easy 2 hours before mayhem (2 kids under 5) erupts in the morning before nursery & work

I've slowly been getting better at forcing myself up early and definitely feel better for it. Temps are getting a bit much for lunchtime riding. Even yesterday it had hit 33C by 10am so i really need to be getting up early on weekends. The good part is that should also help limit weekend booze knowing i need to be up at 6am. When i was trail running i'd happily not drink and head to bed early so i could get up at 4am to head into the Lake District. Need that mentality back.

I might also chat with my boss to switch work hours. I'm currently on 8:30-5 but moving to 9:30 to 6 would put me in line with UK hours and i could then also have time for longer morning rides. The fact sunrise is only 6:30 at the earliest point means i only get ~1hr once i factor in getting home and showering etc.

Have also set new motivation of a new bike. I had been posting in the MTB thread about wanting something new and light to replace my current hardtail, however yesterday was humbling that even a better bike wouldn't have helped on the hills. As such i'm going to turn my MTB into electric so i can build up duration without dying on hills because it's the long hours in saddle i really need to work on. I can then work on reducing motor assistance and when i feel i have enough fitness and lightness i can reward myself with a bike :D

Seems like my slow drop to 199 was the start of a woosh, down to 196 dead this morning. Pretty standard when ever I lose weight it'll hover around the same number for a good while then suddenly I'll get a big drop and either sit at it for a bit again or just slowly start to nibble away at it.

Now under 90kg and exactly 14st, haven't been to the gym since Monday but I'll probably nip down after work and lose another 5kg in sweat as there's no air con

I'm still trending downwards, slightly slower since my last post but this week I got the turbo trainer out and have been doing about 20km on that on top of my usual 7km walk. Down to 85.2kg this morning.

Going on a holiday in a few weeks (first one in 15 years) and bought some clothes for it. When I was trying stuff on in Next I'm into a medium now and I genuinely can't remember when I last was, even back in school. Nice to be able to see the progress, though

What methods are you using guys to loose weight?
Calories restriction, 16/8, fasting, carnivores or keto?

Calorie restriction, 24 hour OMAD fast, keto, 35lbs/2.5st/15.87kg lost in 8.5 weeks, no slip ups, with no additional exercise... Loosing around 3-4lbs per week every week :)
