*** Big Fat Weight Loss Thread ***

Amazing to see such great progress @robj20 @ivrytwr3 @Karl @Ace Modder @Raymond Lin

Positives for me is that I’m definitely fitter on my bike than I was last year. Negatives are that I’m a couple of kilos above where I want to be. My goal for the next month is to get to bed earlier. That in itself should cut the temptation to flop in front of the TV and eat chocolate but also means I’m eating earlier and having a longer fasting period overnight.

Going from nearly 20st last year, i've just hit 13st 11lbs! However..........

wifey is not happy, says i am 'too skinny' and likes her man with a bit of meat! Can't win, "lose weight", put on weight" lol. 6ft 2", still trying to work out what a good weight for me would be and then move to maintenance.
I want this to come from the best meaning place - losing weight and body transformation is hard enough without your significant other saying “not enough… now too much”.

Concentrate on how you feel in your own skin mate, it’s your body and you have to live in it, so do what’s right for you. Again, this comes from a place of big fat weight loss thread love. ❤️ x

I find it interesting, what motivates us/me. New tech often motivates me. When Whoop brough out their Whoop Age and showed me the metrics that affected it, it made me try and get more steps in and spend more time in HR Z4 and Z5.

Well, last week I got my new Fitbit (and the use of their new Google Health app) and it's motivated me to drink more water and eat a little less again. This morning I weighed in the lightest I've been for a couple of months (the red arrows pointing out me getting the Fitbit) -

And it's not just a one-off measurement. It's gradually come down over the week -

I would like to get back to about 15st 2, maybe even 15st flat, ready for my Alps cycling trip in 5 weeks. I had been thinking I was stuck around 15st 9, but this has given me new hope/motivation!

I would say gadgets help me too. I do wish i was better at tracking hydration but i usually do my logging of food etc at the end of the day rather than as i go

More hype for GLP1

Two dozen papers have been presented at the US clinical oncology society event yesterday that shows people using GLP1 drugs like Wegovy have significantly reduced risk of getting cancer and in those who already have cancer, the spread of the disease is slowed down

As an example, a study showed women using GLP1 have 40% lower chance of developing breast cancer. These benefits were also found in other types of cancers, namely lung, colon, liver, kidney, prostate, bladder and blood cancers

While not confirmed, it's believed these cancer related benefits are due to GLP1 reducing chronic inflammation in the body and regulating insulin signaling.

I do wonder if they will start doing clinical trials with low dose GLP in healthy weight folks - not enough to drive significant weight loss but enough to head of potential metabolic issues, inflammation and insulin sensitivity.

My wife is on it at the moment for the inflammatory benefits for her chronic illness and whilst it's only been ~2.5 months. There's been some improvement. She's on 1mg at the moment, but think she'll drop back down. They seem to start low and then work up to find the right level before backing off

1mg is pretty small I believe? isn't the dose for weight loss effective from 5mg onwards or have I mis understood?

Would be fantastic if she is able to get some improvement - My cousin has ME and it's completely debilitating

Yeah I think so. She started on 0.25. Then went to 0.5 and now on 1mg. Think most people start on 1mg and work up. Seems the first month is mainly to start rewiring the brain signals and then the main loss starts after.

The jump to 1mg has hit her appetite pretty hard and for someone with an illness who has trouble with appetite/digestion anyway it’s hard to know if the benefits of the higher dose are worth it.
She’s gonna hold the 1mg for another month and see how things settle. It’s difficult to assess due to the flare up nature of ME.

The wegovy has wiped out her desire for wine and snacks so it’s tempting to try it. Just for a few months get break habits but with needing to fuel for running/cycling I just do t want to be unable to eat when I need to.

What weight are you currently sitting at? Fuel for Cycling / Running can be pretty easy to get down if using carb mix or gels

I'm about 98kg. Fueling i'm absolutely fine with.

I more meant if i was to trial Wegovy to try and remove cravings for beer/wine/snacks given the effect it's had on my wifes appetite. However the knock on issues are that if it stops your ability to eat high sugar products then i'm screwed if i'm trying to cram 70g carbs/hr for 5-10 hour activities and at the end of the day i'd rather be heavier and able to fuel properly than use wegovy and lose weight, but struggle for fueling.

Obviously i could also have some will power :p

Your body will just convert fat storage to glucose as fuel, would it not? Carb loading for events, I am not a doctor but surely the body doesn't store like 3000 cal in the blood for an extensive length of time, since glucose of that level is toxic, hence why it releases insulin to remove it/store it.

Depends on the drug. Wegovy/semaglutide starts at 0.25mg and goes up to I think 7.2mg (used to be 2.5mg but they've had the higher dose approved recently).
Mounjaro/trizipatide starts at 2.5mg goes up to 15mg iirc.

I think the weight loss jabs are revolutionary! Not only for reducing weight loss for us fat knackers, but the benefits of long term health they bring. That being said, who knows several years down the line when offspring start having 2 heads etc! ie we don't know the long term effects of the drug.

I'm down from touching 20st in Jan 25 to 13st 12lbs and now at the top end of 'healthy' on the BMI chart - 24.8 BMI.

Same here, started out at with BMI of 30, now down to 24

The main problem has been with clothes, my waist has dropped several sizes and now most of my pants no longer fit

The only reason I didn't have to go buy a new wardrobe is that like 15 years ago I was around this weight I am now and I bought a new wardrobe of clothes back then. I can basically get back into them all now. Everything from 30" waist jeans to leather jackets.

However the biggest problem isn't the jeans but my work trousers, which I have yet replaced so it is held up with my belts. But I have had to punch new holes in them. I have punched 3 new holes at 1 inch spacing past the smallest notch. I am already at the 2nd one that I punched so only 1 more left. I might have to do it again! Actually by that point I need a new belt since the bit that sticks out now sticks wayyyyy out on the side.

Honestly - I think you're overthinking this, when you're putting out high energy demands, you will be able to bring in fuel as required. The important part is to find the minimal effective dose that lets you reduce weight while still eating and retaining muscle etc - think 1kg off a week for 20 weeks instead of 20kg off over 8 weeks like some of the nonsense ive seen online

I just don't really want to risk it. Wegovy has destroyed my wifes appetite even on really low doses, where she's completely unable to eat on occasions. It also slows the whole gastric system. There's no point dropping a 45g gel when you're bonking if you're body can't process it or the thought of eating anything makes you sick.

As you say, i might be over thinking it, and maybe it wouldn't be a problem and i'd be perfectly capable of consuming sufficient energy, but i'd rather not run that risk. Enjoyment of exercise if more important than weight loss
