big problem help please

hi,

just installed vista on my laptop, thinking it would just change system files and keep everything else!

but now its done i cant fine any of my work....does anyone know where it would be or anything pleeeassee

my college work has gone :'(

You installed a beta operating system onto a laptop you rely on for college work?! What, the hell, were you thinking?

iirc, Vista now uses 'C:\Users' instead of 'Documents and Settings'. Not sure how the betas handle upgrade installs, so it might be worth exploring those two directories to see what you can find (if they exist).
 
did you format the drive before/during the install?!?!?! :eek:

were your files on the same partition as the old o/s? or did you have your drive partitioned?

what vista install was this btw? some beta test thing?
 
i searched near enough everything in c:\ didnt have much luck, currently scanning hdd with file recovery software hopefully that will find something

i was thinking vista would only change system files :(

quick format probably didn't remove them, files are probably still there on the hard disk and you can undelete them. Problem is I don't know any undelete software that works on vista, you could try PC file inspector (google it). Good luck if it'll run chances are it'll get back at least partial files.
